Do you use a screen protector?
« on: December 08, 2012, 04:59:57 AM »
I tried to put one on but couldn't get rid of all the bubbles so took it off again.  I clean the screen every week or so with a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid and that brings it up as good as new.
Is a screen protector necessary at all with the modern tough glass?

No need with the type of glass being used.

I don't use one and kind of regret it now. Mine slid across some light sand or gravel on the street and I have some deep scratches on parts of my glass.

Elaborate.

The N7 does not use guerilla glass or even corning glass. Just an FYI.

I hate screen protectors that stick on. The screen protector in the gum drop case is ideal for me.

Only if you think it is.

I don't use them.

That's a question with a different answer for everyone.  Do you really need to use a seat belt?  Do you really need medical insurance?  Should you install anti-virus?

With the advances in screen glasses, there is a lot less chance of getting scratches.  If you are like me, my electronic gadgets are usually in one of my pockets and I'm eventually going to rub it with a key, coin or pen.  I'm also pretty good at dropping things which is why I use cases.

Bottom line is you don't really need one, but some day you might wish you had one.

Bubbles can be avoided with patience.  Before installing your screen protector, make sure the screen is clean.  Peel about an inch of the backing and line up the screen protector.  Using a credit card, slowly scrape the protector as you peel the backing.

The trick is to go slow and keep scraping.  Don't give air bubbles a chance to form.

You'll get better every time you install a new screen protector.
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?

Likewise, I didn't care much for screen protectors either until I used the Gumdrop's non-sticky version. For me, this is much better than those adhesive protectors.

The glass is made by Corning but is a far cry from Gorilla Glass. I have a couple of grooves in mine that to me look like The Grand Canyon. Little bit of embellishment...::) This is a description from the Asus site.
With a vibrant 1280 x 800 high-definition display, Nexus 7 brings apps, games, books and movies to life. New ASUS TruVivid technology improves color clarity and brightness, while the IPS panel delivers crisp and detailed visuals with ultra-wide 178゚ viewing angles. Scratch-resistant Corning® Fit Glass and a textured chassis design that prevents hand slippage ensure Nexus 7 is incredibly robust and meets the demands of consumers on the go.[/URL]

A screen protector is not really a necessity. I wouldn't leave home without one until over Thanksgiving my brother assaulted his screen with his keys to demonstrate the durability. After that i took mine off. Regardless of the style, they all tamper with sharpness and clarity in my opinion.  Unless you drop kick your device down the road like Barry did, there's not much to worry about.

I agree. The way mine went down , the protector would have been ripped and I think still scratched.

I use a screen protector, it's great that the screen on the N7 is scratch resistant but scratch resistant only means up to a point and if my screen was slightly scratched and with my OCD, it would kill me.
For a few quid (dollars), I think it's a really worth while investment.

I bought a case that came with a free screen protector...

The SP lasted all of about 2 minutes (which was made up of trying to get it all aligned and free of bubbles).

I like Edi better without it anyway. I don't use the case anymore either. :P

I know that it's not really needed but i value my tablet and my cell a lot, and the idea of not using a screen really freaks me out  :o
