If I never screwed up, I wouldn't learn anything. Happy Boxing Day!

Couldn't agree more matt, after spending 30 years or more in the IT industry I have learned that just following instructions has never taught me anything, I have only learned stuff when things don't work.    ;D

I certainly will be sticking around in the future loociddreemr...

That's All Folks

[SNIP]  My primary is BTHomehub2  plus the BTWifi with FON and BTWiFi  if I select them it indicates I am connected but if try to go online it comes back connection error  [SNIP]

As I say toulky, to connect to the Public access hotspots on your router you need the BT WiFi app available from the Market Place.

As a note, you can skip the WiFi configuration in the initial setup and set it up later  [SNIP]

oooh, that's interesting S.P - how do you do that?

S.Prime, matt thanks for the suggestions but please remember the problem we are having is in the initial set up so we cannot even get to Settings to try any of the suggestions that involve 'go to settings'. Until the initial set up is complete we cannot do ANYTHING on the Nexus.

BT is indeed British Telecom - the main UK Broadband provider.

Anyways toulky, my Nexus is now up and running and all is well.
The solution?
Well it's very embarrassing really, I was using the wrong WiFi WPA Key (password).    ::)

How did I find out?
I went to the Settings on the Home Hub and checked out what the key was set to.
As S.Prime says it's also on the label on the bottom of the Home Hub - as long as you haven't changed it from the default.

I then remembered I went from WEP to WPA when I upgraded from Home Hub version 1 to version 3.  I obviously didn't change the key in my password database - d'oh!   :o

Hope yours is such as simple a solution.

Thanks for all the suggestions Guys and apologies for my stupidity, or my memory module failure anyway. Hehe!

If only the error message had been more meaningful such as "Incorrect username or password" instead of the totally misleading "Authenticating..."    :P

Ooh shucks  :-[ I was doing the same ie using the wrong password from the card that came with the hub. I was inputting the admin password code instead of the wireless key code
Put in correct code hey presto up and running. Glad I came on here and read your message before I took it back to PC World. Would have been tad embarrassing to say the least. The fact that it asked for password instead of wireless key threw me

Thanks to everyone for their input hope the wife enjoys her new toy (I might have a go on it once in a while) :D

Excellent toulky, glad to hear you're up and running.
If you sneak a go on the Nexus you won't be disappointed.   ;D

Hi guys, I just got my Nexus 7 for Christmas and I just joined the forum, so posting for the first time. With mine I've had no problem connecting to the internet WIFI at home or on friends routers. My problem is at coffee shops, I can connect and show a strong signal but when I open Chrome looking for the Terms and Conditions so I can accept and surf all I get is a message that it is not connected to the internet.

The only way I've been able to connect when this happens is to open with the Play Store app, the touch the 3 stack of square blocks in the upper right corner then select help which then takes me to the Terms and Conditions page that I should be getting when I attempt to open Chrome. So something must be set wrong or ?? It's my first tablet so pretty new at this stuff, so go easy on me.

Keep us updated and someone should be able to help but I probably won't be able to. Whenever anyone I know has WiFi problems I just rip out there whole network and put a new one in.
