How's the dock?
« on: January 22, 2013, 11:40:38 AM »
I received my dock today and it is certainly a neat little thing.  It works well and is easier to use for charging than the plugging in the cable.  However,  you have to use your existing charger and (very short) cable to plug into it.  I would have expected a seperate charger for the price.  I'm not sure about using the audio out on it.  I would prefer a wireless connection to my hi-fi.
All in all, it works and looks good but maybe not worth £30

Audio would be the only reason I would buy that.

£24.99 plus £6 carriage = £30.99

You can't really including carriage/postage...

I'll be getting one when they're back in stock, might even get two...

I received my dock yesterday and have been using it since it arrived. Here are my concerns.

The item comes with no cable. That is weird for a charger and something of this cost. Pretty cheap on their part.

The audio port works well, but I think that bluetooth sounds better, but this is not a major issue.

My biggest concern here is that it appears as if the pogo pins, used for charging and audio in the dock, do not appear to be charging the device at the rapid rate that the charger does by itself. I can plug the charging cable into the Nexus directly and recharge it in an hour or 2.

When I placed the Nexus in the dock last night, it was docked properly and showed the daydream screens, but it did not charge fully. It was actually losing power slowly while docked.

I might be missing something here, but the charging does not work well. I am charging it with the cable directly right now and will re-dock it after to see what happens, but I am skeptical on whether this thing is worth it at all.

I will update if I can determine what the issue is.

Hope this helps.

The charging issues are probably not related to the dock. I've seen some screwy behavior with the cord, too. I get the best results by turning off the screen before charging. Beginning to think google made a kernel mistake, controlling charge amperage using gpu or cpu temp instead of battery temp.

it seems to be somewhat inconsistent. Sometimes it charges, sometimes it does not.

I am thinking that it could also be an issue with Daydream as I am sure that uses power even though it should not.

Still testing.

My final verdict.

The dock works well, but it appears as if Daydream is draining the battery, even if it is in the dock.

Turn off Daydream and the dock works fine.

All good, unless you want to use Daydream.

Mine charges fine as long as the tablet is seated properly in the dock.  It seems to make no difference if daydream is on or off. My biggest complaint is that you still have to use the original charger and cable - which is far too short.  I will at least have to buy a longer cable :(

I agree the price is way - way too expensive especially when you add the P&P. Someone said above that "you cannot count the P&P" ???? why is that I ask? - is someone else paying it for you? As far as I'm concerned the price of £30.99 is what it actually costs me. Not £24 :'(

My old iPad charger with any "longer" (plug compatible) usb cable works a treat!! - or it does for me anyway
