avast problems?
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:14:45 AM »
Hey everyone,
I have had avast installed on my tablet since day one and haven't had any problems with it.
Having just turned on my tablet today and done a scan it has said there are 5118 problems!! lol
In the log report everyone of them says "invalid context during scan".
Anybody know what this is?
Thanks.

Same here but not as many problems. Thinking something wrong with last update.

I have never seen a virus on any of my Android devices. I don't think I have anyway.

is an anti-virus needed on my tabs or my phone? All are android, and I've never caught a virus, but I could have just been lucky I guess. It didn't occur to me to use an anti-virus on these devices although I do use avast on my laptop.

I use Avast mobile security app on all my android devices. It is not for virus prevention which is extremely rare in android but because AMS provides a useful firewall, theft protection, and more. These are far more useful than the antivirus part. There are other tools that can do the firewall, etc. but I find Avast convenient for me.

Hope this helps.

Uninstall Avast and any other antivirus applications, use Cerberus Anti Theft instead...

Do you need a firewall?

I do.
I don't sync and I selectively block access to a number of apps so they can't call home. I like my privacy. Avast lets you do this for both wifi and 3 or 4 G. Has several other features too. The AV is just a bonus.
One can of course use other tools
I just find Avast is convenient and thorough. And it's free.
Ymmv.
If someone lives in Google and Facebook, then a firewall makes no sense. It comes down to whether one wants some privacy or not.

Now your rooted try Droidwall, or go to the Android settings and activate restrict background data.

Settings> Data usage> Menu (3 dots)> Tick Restrict background data.
