skype
« on: July 17, 2012, 09:45:05 PM »
I just received my nexus 7 today and I like it in all respects except for 1 item, the camera.I used to have a skype conversation with another individual and a picture quality was nothing short of abysmal. it was definitely the nexus because he is already done a successful skype with the other device and an apple product. I hope they can do something to fix this, something like a software update because it makes the camera all but useless.

well, as long as I'm complaining I think they like to have the screen auto rotate under almost all circumstances.

Reviewers have mentioned this and Google has said it's a software issue because if you use the camera for other things its actually not bad. So basically they will fix it.

I had my first Skype contact with my son, daughter-in-law, & grandchildren today.  I don't know how bad the image was on their end, but it was nice that I could take the N7 outside to show them the garden, bird feeders, etc.

I rotated the N7 around, & somehow ended up with my image on my lower right corner of the Skype video inverted.  It was right-side-up on their view, they told me.

I installed Skype last night but haven't tested it yet... so good to know.  Also I'm anxious to try a Google Hangout to see how well the camera works there too since that's one reason I got the N7 is for Hangouts.

One thing to note is during the Skype installation it did say Skype wasn't optimized for the N7 (or something like that), so I agree that this is probably software and will be fixed in time.

Exactly, people are reporting that google hangouts actually looks good.  So its probably a skype issure with the camera, im sure they will fix it.

We used Skype to visit with our daughter last night and it worked great.  I also have an Acer Iconia Tab A500.  Skype is terrible on it.

Thanks for the explanation birdastompgman. To expand a bit, basically I use it when I appreciate or can identify with the previous post

Screen capture from my Skype session last night with my son & grandchildren.  They said my picture quality was fine on their end.

Can someone who has used skype video call explain how they do it?

Do you prop up the N7 in some way?  (I find the person I am calling can only see my nose.) Is there a way to see or zoom the video that you are transmitting?
