How do I add a language to the keyboard?
« on: February 22, 2013, 12:44:26 PM »
New Nexus, and now I can't remember how I added a second language to it. I am an English speaker living in Sweden, but need to occasionally use the extra Swedish vowels. On my old Nexus I was able to make the keyboard so it had a button I could push on it, and it would switch to Swedish and let me use the vowels, and then I could touch the button again to go back to English.

Now when I try to do language things, it just switches the whole thing to Swedish, which is not at all what I want.

Can anyone help me?

After this is done, then I need to tackle getting Swype back on the device!  :)

Go to settings, language and input. To the right of android kb is it's settings. Click Input languages- uncheck use system language and check swedish and english. Back up a page and scroll down to advanced settings where you'll find the language switch key.

Download the Swype installer app from here, install Swype and uninstall the installer.

No need to sign up with Swype now...

Were you aware that the Nexus now incorporates the gesture typing (swyping) directly into the stock keyboard?

I think SwiftKey just added gesture typing yesterday.

Yep, discovered the built in swipe function after I typed this. Seems to work great except for the question and exclamation mark, which I liked on Swype better.

I used Swype for a long time before Android introduced gesture typing, there are some subtle differences like not having to do the little circle thing to perform a double letter and not swiping above the kb to capitalise.
I've switched back to the stock kb, I tried Swype and Swiftkey again recently but just installed them and fine back to the stock kb. It's not perfect but good enough for me.
