Driver Problems...
« on: March 23, 2013, 05:00:32 AM »
Hi people..

Last night decided to root my Nexus 7. Downloaded Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.3 and started with driver installation guide.

After approximately 15 attempts, I still can't seem to install the drivers. I get to the very end of the process but when I go to the 'full driver test' it tells me the drivers have failed to install correctly.

I've followed every instruction to the letter but to no avail.

I'm using windows vista if that makes any difference.

I've tried all 3 driver solutions, starting with number 3 as recommended, but still doesn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried plugging in the nexus? Does it get recognized as a Nexus?

Personally, I find that Mark Skippen's Toolkit does a better job at installing the correct drivers for the Nexus 7 and 10 and is available at XDA. Here. To add an additional note to the OP, Vista is the real issue and was probably the worst OS from MS, IMO.

If I remember right, Vista, Me, 95, 98, and Xp without it's latest service packs all had problems with usb support. And if you have an old motherboard you may need a usb card with it's own drivers as well as a modern operating system. You might be able to dual boot a linux distro for free but there's a steep learning curve.

I couldn't even get a usb mp3 player to be recognized until xp.

I have an XP box and had problems with the drivers in the beginning as well. I was rooting for the first time and I remembered being embarrassed to mention it. I was thinking to myself damn you can't even install the drivers? Lol. I still get a driver error message occasionally , I think its an MTP error or something. That hung me up forever because I thought it was crucial to the rooting process and would mess things up.

Thanks for the advice, I've used this toolkit and drivers have installed perfectly... Now on to rooting.

Good to hear. I chose to support Mark's project and he is constantly upgrading the toolkit and stays well ahead of any free version.

Back when I first got started with my nexus 7 and android as well I didn't know anything about adb/fastboot. I also found mark skipens toolkit to be the most helpful. Now a days I just use adb and fast boot. I first rooted my nexus 7 on a vista os with no problems. I find the easiest solution for drivers is the universal naked drivers found at XDA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766220
