N7 Sound Level
« on: March 30, 2013, 03:07:19 PM »
Sound level from N7 built in speakers seems lower than I remember.  Settings for "Sound" says that I'm set at maximum.  Any other "hidden" sound level adjustment that I should be aware of ?

Certain media apps have a boost like PowerAmp and MxPlayer. As far as stock Android I think there is an EQ in the music app but that's about it. I usually use a BT speaker or headphones because I never was happy with the internal speaker. You can always try a volume booster app but be careful of blowing out the speaker.

If you are comparing one source to another, this could be the key to your issue. All source materials are not created equally. As Barry suggest, headphones or an external option will give better sound quality.

Comparative N7 Sound Levels (and Start-Up Time)
« Reply #3 on: April 03, 2013, 02:39:55 PM »
Actually I am comparing sound level from N7 built-in speakers pre-JB4.2 to current levels with latest JB.  Could be my bad memory, but I'd swear the pre-JB4.2 sound levels were louder.

Same comment regarding N7 start-up time.  Latest JB seems to slow things down.

I'm partly deaf, so that doesn't help. However, I suspect that Asus (or Google?) is very worried about headphones making somebody deaf. I have a nice little Radio Shack digital AM/FM radio, and the headphones are as loud as I want. Nexus often is not loud enough with volume at max.

Another thing is that countless video producers don't care a fig about the sound level in their videos -- they are disgracefully low.

Business opportunity: Little box, couple of AAs, limiter with gain. Limit threshold set to minimize hearing damage.

Here's wishing better for you.
