Recovering a Dead or Software-damaged Nexus
« on: April 15, 2013, 02:47:44 PM »
With the ever increasing threat of malware infection of Android tablets, I would like to know how I could recover my Nexus from a software-damaged condition.

I've considered rooting & creating a custom backup, but it looks a bit scary for me at the moment. For now it would be sufficient to know how to reboot to factory settings. I have backups of all my data. I believe there is a process using the power & volume keys from a cold boot.

I have installed Avast anti-virus but this does not make the Nexus totally safe.

You are correct that recovery through a factory reset can be achieved in recovery mode, power down your tablet and press and hold the center of the volume keys and press power to reach recovery mode. Recovery can also be reached in settings with the tablet powered on. Additionally the Root Toolkits have the option to restore the factory ROM.

This forum is the place to get help for anything having to do with your Nexus 7 that is not Android OS related.  Please put general Jelly Bean/Android OS questions in the OS forum.
Were you successful in your attempts to wipe the device? If you need further assistance, let us know.
