The amazing serial leaker @evleaks has once again come through...this time with the first official press image of the 'New' Nexus 7.  As can be seen in the image above it looks very slim and the shape of the device is similar to the current version with slightly smaller side bezels but with fairly full top and bottom bezels.  Clearly visible are the rear camera, dual speakers (one on top, the other on bottom) which should be great for stereo separation when watching movies in landscape mode.  Other specs confirmed here are the SIM slot, and interestingly the rumored Notification LED.

The two things that stand out as unusual are the odd placement of the front facing camera (it appears about 2/3 of the way to the right above the display) and the previously mentioned Nexus logo on the back which is now in landscape instead of portrait like the original model.   You can also on the large version of the pictures below see a small 'Asus' logo on the bottom back juxtaposed horizontally as well as both the microphone jack notch opening on the top of the tablet and the MicroUSB on the bottom which we know from a previous leak will incorporate 'SlimPort' technology for video out.

Overall we have to say we think the new Nexus 7 looks pretty slick and we're looking forward to getting our hands on one.  Make sure you come to the site on Wednesday when we expect Google to introduce the new Nexus 7 during their event with Sundar Pichai, Google's Android and Chrome head.  What do you think fellas?  Do you like what you're seeing? Let us hear your thoughts in the comments!

The Nexus 7.2 is “longer and thiner [sic]”, with dimensions of 204.4 x 115.6 x (?) millimeters compared with the current Nexus 7 at, 198.5×120×10.56 mm. Although I cannot find anything on the thickness of the 7.2, I am guessing that it will be less than the 10.56 mm that we currently have on the Nexus 7. I am also suggesting that the wider bezel on the sides when in landscape mode, the offset FFC (Front Facing Camera), and the orientation of the Nexus Logo on the back, may be an indication that Google expects the 7.2 to be used heavily in landscape mode, which would be an exact reversal of their thinking when the Nexus 7 was originally released with the home screen locked in portrait mode. So what are your thoughts on the design change?
