Tablet won't turn on
« on: July 31, 2013, 11:01:05 AM »
My tablet is fully charged and I tried to turn it on and all it's doing is flickering, but I am not getting anything else.  Can someone help?  I have it plugged in right now charging, and that is when it is flickering.  I unplug it and it stops flickering but it won't turn on either way

Have you tried holding down the power button for a full minute?  Time it with a clock.  They always boot within 40 seconds, in my experience.

I did what you said and nothing.  So I decided to plug it in and charge it with my phone charger since it is the same connection.  One thing I noticed right off, is that it wasn't flickering.  So I will let it do its thing and I will check in the morning and see if I can turn it on.  Is there a way to see if it is charged without it turned on?

When  you plug it in, turned off, a battery icon appears for ~15 seconds.  The amount of white in the icon shows the state of charge of the battery.  So, unplug it, and plug it back in to see how charged it is.

After it is fully charged, unplug the power cable from the tablet and then plug it back in within 15 seconds, then press the power button and hold, it should power on within 1 minute. This method has reportedly solved the power on issue in many occasions.

There is no light.  The tablet never turns on.  It just flickers when it is being charged.  I have held the power button down for at least a minute and nothing happens.  I have unplugged it and tried to turn it on and it does nothing.  Is there a reset button?

If this is a N7 2012, some users have reported that the battery cable becomes unplugged. If you are willing, pop the back off of your N7 and check the cable.

There is no functioning reset button on the Nexus 7.  There is a fourth button inside the case when you remove the back of the N7, in line with the power and volume buttons.  The fourth button is labeled reset, but it's not connected to anything.

If you still have warranty coverage for your N7, this is the time to  use it.

I would go the warranty route. Try a different cable or it might be a bad USB jack on the tablet. If you know someone with a dock, it can be charged through the pogo pins. You can sell it for parts if all else fails.

I tried once more.  I held the power key and the down volume key and then start button showed up and then I clicked power off.  Now the battery charging sign is on the screen., now google and then the X and now its loaded.   now it is showing that it is not charged and it is powering off.  But it has been charging, so I am not sure why its saying it isn't charged

I am thinking it is a bad USB connection on the tablet side.  Thank you everyone for your help

Nothing to lose plug the charger usb cable into a usb port on your computer and charge from the computer for a few hours and try to power it on. This will eliminate the charger as a problem.

It does sound like a bad  connection somewhere. You may have to charge it with the dock. If you decide to sell it, I'm interested in it for parts.

I had a tablet flicker when I used a connect-and-charge usb hub. I think the filter capacitors were bad. Could be you had a power surge that took out the charger?
