Hello from Tasmania
« on: September 22, 2013, 08:51:16 PM »
I don't own a Nexus yet but confidently expect my wife to buy me one for Christmas, and hope to prepare myself by asking questions on the forum.

My main hobby is designing ebooks, and one of the reasons for getting a Nexus is to be able to test the ebooks on a tablet.

Another hobby is listening to music, and I hope to learn how to side load some of the hundreds of CDs I have so as to be able to listen to them on the Nexus.

For reasons good or bad I hope to be able to avoid GMail since I value my privacy, so I'll be asking questions about using my current email account.

And I'm sure I'll find other questions to ask, and (I hope) be able to answer.

Regards, Alex

Welcome Alex. You'll be hard pressed to avoid Gmail totally as a Gmail account will be your Google login for the Play store and other Google applications. Up to you whether you use it though...

Thanks for your comment about avoiding GMail. I have an account of course to buy things from the Google store. But I don't want to use it as an email client. It probably won't make much difference, but I want to make is as hard as I can for grubby minded NSA and ASIS operatives to poke through my private files.

I take the opposite tack and pepper my email with keywords that the data mining program Echelon may hit on. The more blind alleys the merrier little goose chase. Jihad!

If you want privacy you could try encryption, giving recipients each a private key, but there's no guarantee of locked back doors...
