Can not update to JSS151
« on: October 22, 2013, 08:36:35 AM »
I’m really enjoying my new Google Nexus 7 device, but sadly it won’t update from build JWR66N (kernel version: 3.4.0-g1f57c39) to build JSS15J.

Every other day I get an update (53 mb approximately) to install Android Version 4.3 which is obviously already installed.

I am thinking, if I can install JSS151 this nonsense will stop.

Help is really appreciated. Thank you.

JWR66N will update to JWR66Y and are the build numbers for the Nexus 2012.

JSS15R is the latest build number for the Nexus 2013 and will not install on the Nexus 2012.

Remember build numbers starting with JWR are Nexus 2012 and Build numbers starting with JSS are Nexus 2013.

Thank you for your answer S.Prime.

Mine is Nexus 7 2013...I bought it from John Lewis on end of August 2013.

You have really confused me now  :( :D

The last two new updates install say 4.3 just in case you weren't aware.

himmm, look at the back of your Nexus 7 and if you see a rear facing camera, that will confirm that you have a Nexus 7 2013. Your build number looks strange.

Yes, I do have a rear facing camera. Just check the build number again...yes it is...JWR66N.
When I was first setting up the device...it told me that the update was due to download and it was 4.3.
Thank you again.

What happens when you run the update? It keeps failing?

After a bit of research, I have discovered that some Nexus 7 2013 units were shipped with JWR66N developer edition by mistake.

The early builds shipped by mistake with JWR66N with developer keys so there was a mandatory emergency fix that installed JWR66N with release keys. Then after that you would get the JSS15J ota update. Apparently Google later pulled JSS15J, so now you cannot get that. JSS15Q replaced JSS15J but your problem is that you are still stuck at JWR66N. I suggest that since you have limited knowledge, that you go back to the original vendor and request a replacement or that they handle a manual install of the latest Android version. Your other option would be to install a factory image with one of the toolkits by Mark Skippen or Wugfresh. Hope this helps clear it up the confusion.

When I run the update it says the device is shutting down, it shuts down and re-starts, few seconds later Android is on the floor, RED error message shows. If I leave it like that nothing but nothing happens. I have to physically re-boot the tablet. Few hours later or sometimes a day or two later same update appears again.

Few weeks ago I did a factory re-set....made no difference.

Thank you

PS : I have just read S.Prime's post.....Thank you...I suppose I'll have to make my way to John Lewis.

Thanks for that Prime.  If Himmm needs help updating I am sure we could walk you through the process. You would learn a whole lot as well. I understand you are apprehensive about diving into the unknown so Hopefully, the vendor replaces it. I am assuming it is still under their guidelines for return?
