KitKat 4.4.2
« on: December 09, 2013, 04:12:01 PM »
Even before KitKat 4.4.1 has finished rolling out we have a 2nd OTA, KitKat 4.4.2. I have seen multiple reports of the 4.4.2 OTA rolling out to the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7. It is surfacing without a change log, just as 4.4.1 rolled out without a change log.

Any word on what it does?  Probably just a few bug fixes I would think that they discovered over the past few days since 4.4.1 went out.

I am having problems with a mxplayer and BS player pro now that I upgraded. I had to dump bs pro and downgrade to the free version to watch video.

Note that the Nexus 7 (2012) will update from 4.4 to 4.4.2 skipping 4.4.1.

I received a notification for 4.4.2 update
I proceed with the update but got an error, red triangle on the android robot
My N7 (2012) is rooted . Do I have to sideload to update ?
Will it erase all of my applications if using Wugfresh or Skipsoft ?

I applied the update last night.  All worked well though I will have to get re-rooted again via Wugfresh.  The update removed root from my Nexus 7 (2012).  One of these days I will learn how to recover gracefully from these updates.  I have backups from Titanium Plus in Dropbox but can never seem to restore them.  Takes me 1/2 a day to manually restore after an android update.  On the plus side it makes me review the apps I have.

If I remember correctly the fallen Android with the red triangle when in Fastboot mode, indicates that you do not have a recovery installed. Use one of the toolkits to install the stock or a custom recovery and your update should succeed. You can use the toolkits to sideload the OTA but choose the stock recovery option when you sideload considering that you apparently don't have a recovery installed. With OTA installation from Google or by sideloading I have never had to reinstall apps, but you will lose root, if you have that.

Thanks, S Prime
I tried to reroot with custom recovery. Then try to side load with custom recovery using both Wugfresh and Skipsoft but in both case it did not sideload the zip file.
When using volume down to choose sideload using adb, Wugfreash said device not connected. N& can not receive the transmitted zip file from Skipsoft
The red triangle stays on forever and I had to hold the volume button to reboot in normal/android mode.
I also try to side load using TWRP but still not working
If somehow I can get rid of the red triangle it may work

When you choose sideload with stock recovery and you reach the point with the fallen Android with red triangle, hold power and tap volume up to get to recovery and select adb sideload. Note the Skippen toolkit prompts you to use this procedure but only if you read the prompts in the toolkit as you follow the steps.
