Can the Nexus 7 read USB thumb drives?
« on: December 18, 2013, 07:43:12 PM »
I have a micro USB to USB jack adapter.

When I plug in a thumb or jump drive, no file manager program -- that I have -- can see its contents.

Can the Nexus 7 read USB thumb drives?

Thank you for your help.

You need an "On The Go" (OTG) cable.
This topic has been discussed here:  using Nexus 7 and an OTG cable

and here: OTG usb problems

and here: Which otg cable recommended?

and in a lot of other threads if you do a forum search for OTG cable
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?

Use your OTG cable in conjunction with "Nexus Media Importer" app (see Play store).  Allows you to read/write between N7 and flash drive (or memory card and reader).  OK for pix, vids, docs, music, etc.  No rooting required.

An OTG cable and the Nexus Media Importer only allow you to read from USB flash drives and other media. Your Nexus 7 must be rooted in order to write to those media.

Apparently, nmi will read/write to a fat formatted drive. Ntsf is read only for now.

Not true!  Latest Nexus Media Importer allows both read and write to flash.
