app updates stops netflix playback

while watching netflix, apps are updating in the backround (i see the little down arrow animation in the bar at the top)  when an app finishes, netflix stops playing.  the screen pops up "3.xx Gigabytes remaining" (or some such)  i have to hit play to start the playback again.  this happens over and over until all the apps have updated.  how do i stop the notifications?  apps that take only a few seconds to update stop playback ever few seconds.  very annoying.

Go to Google Play and tap the menu at the top left and tap my apps. Then select one the apps that is auto updating and tap the three dots at the top right and remove the check from auto update.
