OS updates apparently failing
« on: January 01, 2015, 01:35:11 AM »
Hello, I got a refurb Nexus 7 2012 model for Christmas -- and it wants to install an OS update (4.2.2 it says). When I start the process I see a progress bar, then a graphic of a little droid with a spinning ball -- then after a little while I see the little droid on his back, with a red rectangle containing a "!". Then it restarts.

There are no text messages to tell me what's happened, but I take it the update failed, since the Nexus comes up almost immediately announcing again that system update.

Is there an error log hidden in there somewhere? Any idea what I might need to do to fix this?    Thanks              -- Howard Ballinger

Viewing logcat may require that you root the tablet first to use a terminal emulator or Catlog. Adb may work without root. Check out the toolkits that will automate adb and fastboot commands on the PC with batch files. They may include a log reader and you can download factory images to the tablet as well.

I suspect the ota update file is defective. You could also try rebooting to recovery, wiping the cache partition, and waiting for the ota to redownload.

As an alternative, you can bypass the upgrade issues by using WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit to install the factory image for the latest version of Android, 5.0.2, and save yourself some headaches.

For me this shows as an ebay link rather than a link to Wugfresh's site.  Try
http://www.wugfresh.com/
