Favorite Keyboard App?
« on: August 03, 2012, 09:18:35 AM »
I see there are several keyboard apps in the market and some with very high download counts!  Anyone got a particular fav that works with our N7?  They all seem to be compatible and very customizable so how does one choose??

My personal favorite is SwiftKey X Keyboard for tablets. Just remember that there is a version for phones and one for tablets.

OK, I just downloaded the free version, so I'm good for a month's trial.  So far, so good...  but lots to figure out.  I want to learn how to control it, not have it control me :)

Graffiti Pro - FTW!

My first "tablet" was the original U.S. Robotics Palm Pilot in 1997. I fell in love with Graffiti, thought it was a great compromise between teaching the computer to recognize writing, and teaching humans what computers like to read   ;D

OK, I'm j/k a bit, Graffiti has a great deal of nostaligic value to me, but then I'm 65, and tend to be nostalgic from time-to-time.

I am currently trying TouchPal for my keyboard, and 7Notes for handwriting recognition (which runs nicely on my iPad, and not too bad on the Nexus).....

Ha, I had a Palm III.  That was my first 'tablet'.  I loved that thing...took it everywhere.   Still have it in a drawer somewhere.  Wonder if it would still turn on.

I'm a fan of 'go keyboard'. Level of customization is off the chart. I particularly like the ability to use a gallery photo as a keyboard background, and then set the transparency to 'fade' the image back some. Now, with that being said, I've recently switched over to 'smart keyboard pro' simply because of a 'Batman; themed keyboard available for download. And, being an absolute Dark Knight fanatic, this was too cool to pass up.

I'm not much of a fan of the 'swipe' keyboard feature. It just doesn't appeal to me at all. So I run SKpro on my NX7, and go keyboard on my galaxy s3.

Choose the same way you choose an automobile.  Take them for a test drive.  Read the descriptions and download the ones you think you might like.  Test them with the programs you use.  Pick the one you like best.  Thumb Drive is my favorite.

My favorite so far is touch pal keyboard. I tried swift key 3 for a while and didn't really like the fact that the predicted text and spell correct didn't  work while doing web searches. Touch pal has great features,  is simple and best of all its free !

SwiftKey for phone, hands-down.

Enable the arrows, set the key height to "large" and you have a great tablet keyboard with prediction that's second to none. And if you press and hold the Voice Input key, you can do pretty accurate voice dictation. Highly recommended.

The show arrow keys option is under themes in the phone version of SwiftKey, but it is not available in the tablet version of SwiftKey, that I have found. On the tablet version selecting the numeric keyboard and then the extended keyboard will give the direction keys.
