JayJ’s Easy Flash Install for the Non-Rooted or Rooted Nexus 7

Thanks to forum member JayJ for the following information, you can now install Flash on your Nexus 7 without rooting your tablet. You will also find that it works equally well with a rooted Nexus 7. The Google Chrome browser will not support Flash, but xScope Browser combined with a modified Flash apk from XDA Developers will give you the ability to display Flash content on your tablet.

Step 1:

Swipe down from the top of your tablet’s screen and tap the 3 sliders to enter “Settings” on your tablet. Then tap “Security” and place a check in the block by “Unknown Sources” and then tap on the “Home” button at the bottom.

Step 2:

Go to Google Play, then download and install xScope Browser Here. If you prefer more handholding with the Flash install xScope Browser Pro at $.99 US Here.

Step 3:

Open the xScope Browser and you will be asked if you want to install Flash Player. Accept and you will be taken to XDA Developers where you can download the Adobe_Flash_Player.apk. Next accept the option to run the apk. Note the apk is stored in /sdcard/download if you miss the run option.
I did not use the xScope Browser Pro, so I am uncertain of the additional benefits of Flash install assistance in the pro version.

Step 4: Test Flash

The following link will allow you to test your Flash Plugin. Remember to use Flash you will have to access the Flash content through the xScope Browser. Tapping the center of the first test block will prompt your browser choice, then tap the play button and watch the balls rearrange. The second test is a Flash video. Tap Here to test your Flash install.

Nice write up Prime!

It doesn't sounds any different than the install on xScope Pro, I've used xScope Pro for over two years now and personally I think it's well worth the small charge for such an awesome browser.

I just checked SP's link to xscope browser (free) and discovered it links to the pro version now.  Worse, the xscope browser pro - web file app doesn't cost $.99 any more.  Now it costs $2.99.  The pro link also leads to the same $2.99 app.

Apparently, the price went up when Adobe ended Flash support for Android on August 15.

It appears the free version has been removed?

I think that's pretty out of order as there are other browsers this works with and the modded Flash apk is free anyway...

I make no excuses, I do not agree with this at all but I will still use xScope because it is a fantastic browser and as I said above I have been using it for at least a couple of years.

Isn't it just easier to back up flash on an ICS device and then install onto Nexus.

Flash isn't supported under JB so ICS is the latest version available.

I have Flash backed up from my ICS phone and installed on my JB Nexus 7 without issue.

Has this been tested on Hulu Web? Does anyone know if that works?

I tried using downloaded Flash.apk with firefox to watch Amazon video and firefox still get 'unsupported' version message.  I am able to watch Youtube video (does youtube use flash?)

YouTube doesn't use Flash.

I thought You Tube supported both HTML5 and Flash because I can watch You Tube videos on my N7 with Chrome but also with xScope and xScope doesn't support HTML5 only Flash??

Do we know what's been modded ??

In the first few pages of that thread, some people are saying it's not modded at all, and then on page 3 there's a new version.

Also, no matter what version of flash is installed under JB, it is still not supported in CHROME for Android.

No Chrome does not support Flash, that's why xScope is used and I believe Firefox beta also works with Flash or so I have read.

As for whether the Flash apk is modded, I don't think it is because the most recent update of xScope, upon installation gives you the option to download the Flash apk from XDA or from Adobe's website.
