Comic and graphic novel reading has gone through somewhat of a renaissance in recent years ever since publishers began issuing digital versions of their most famous titles. From Batman to Superman to Xmen to The Watchmen...today you can choose between several different sources to download and enjoy your favorite characters and comic titles on your Nexus 7 including using the Kindle App from Amazon, Nook App from Barnes & Noble, Dark Horse Comics App, and finally our choice for 'best in breed', 'comiXology.
Now there's two reasons why the 'comiXology' App is our choice above all the others. Selection and Presentation. 'comiXology' has, hands down, the largest selection of top name comics both old and new of any resource on the internet and most probably the world. Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image, IDW, Archie & many more! They offer over 20,000 titles and over 600 are free! Unlike the other sources listed above it also sells individual comics issues instead of forcing you to buy entire collections or libraries...thereby saving you money. What's more 'comiXology' offers most new release comics digitall on the same day as their printed hard copies. So if you want that brand new Superman that is about to be released at the same time as everyone else...'comiXology' is where to get it on the very 1st release day.
Another great thing about 'comiXology' is their 'Guided View' app that automatically zooms in and pans over to each frame of the comic in an 'assisted panning mode' that really enhancing the comic viewing experience. For comparison purposes the Kindle App glitches out all the time and doesn't smoothly move from panel to panel and the Nook app doesn't offer panel viewing for most of their comics. The 'comiXology' viewer is definitely top notch, glitch free and the Nexus 7 does a spectacular job of displaying the beautiful artwork of your favorite comics on its 1280 x 800 IPS display. It really makes the stories come to life and makes you feel like a kid again. Best of all...no creased or wrinkled pages and you can carry around a library of hundreds of comics with you wherever you go!
The 'comiXology' app also let's see thumbnail views of pages for easy navigation as well as let's you manually zoom in closer if you want to see artwork close-up. The app also saves and continues your comic in the same place on any other device you have 'comiXology' installed like your laptop or desktop. If you delete titles from your device to because of lack of space or any other reason you can you can always re-download your purchased titles. You'll never have to worry about losing that favorite comic again.
About the only comic collections that comiXology doesn't have are those from 'Dark Horse' publishing which includes such titles as The Guild, Hell Boy, and Star Wars. To get these you'll have to go directly to 'Dark Horse'. But overall if you're a comic book or graphic novel fan we think you'll really love 'comiXology'. Like we mentioned...you can try out over 600 different comics for free just by downloading the comiXology app and going to their website. Give it a try and let us know what you think. Any comic lovers out there in Nexus 7 land?
