Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: I Need a keyboard

John

The cable arrangement is a bit ungainly, the keys are quite short travel and you may need an adapter, but it is pretty good for the money. There is similar bluetooth arrangement out there somewhere with a detachable keyboard, but it is rather pricier.

Nexus 7 Accessories / USB Card Reader

Just got one of these.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007RVM99U/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
It is cheap (and feels cheap) but works fine as a card reader in conjunction with Nexus Media Importer (Read Only - I guess I would need to 'root' if I wanted write access - but as my main reason for getting it was to view photos on my camera memory cards and carry extra media around that is no big issue)

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: OTG rightangle cables caveat

Well I am living in Italy at present. I notice, however, that on Amazon.co.uk there are versions that point the other way. But they charge me 3x the price of the adaptor to post them to Italy, so maybe I will wait until I am next in the UK

Nexus 7 Accessories / OTG rightangle cables caveat

I bought a right angle OTG cable the other day via Amazon (Thus one http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B007MOD0KE/ref=fb_lfb_prodpg_1 - though there are many similar around). It works perfectly well but in landscape mode, with the buttons on the top and usb socket on the right (the ideal orientation - indeed the only orientation for Angry Birds!), it points upwards rather than downwards. I guess this is because the Nexus socket is the 'other way up' in comparison to similar devices that use micro usb

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: Keyboard case
« on: August 30, 2012, 07:38:59 AM »
I bough a similar case for an earlier 7"  tablet, and with the relevant OTG adaptor it works well with my newly acquired Nexus 7
Its main drawback is the slightly ugly cable arrangement, the cable from the keyboard terminates in a normal USB plug,  which then requires an adaptor to connect to the tablet
It is also a bit bulky, being designed for the thicker generic Android tablets that have been around for a couple of years

New Member Introductions / Tony Milner

Well as there is a place for introducing myself...

I find myself travelling quite a bit as 'home' is the UK but I currently work in Italy

I tried a cheap Chinese 7" tablet a year or so ago (marketed by Cambridge Science) - android 2.3 - quick enough but clunky and a bit bulky. I didn't want on ipPad (honest) as it is too big (and too expensive) - nothing against IOS as I like my iPhone 4 very much

Anyway when the Nexus 7 came out I couldn't resist. I've had it a week and I am very pleased so far. Hope the cheap keyboard case I bought my Cambridge one works with this - I just need the right cable (searching for that info led me here in the first place)

Pity there is no Micro SD or HDMI, but as I didn't intend it as first and foremost a media machine that is no big deal.

Anyway back to playing with my new toy....
