nexus 7 32gb 3g
« on: October 31, 2012, 10:27:50 AM »
I am new to nexus and 3g. So I wonder can or could I use the nexus 7 3g model as a cell phone with a data plan? Or just use for data only?

Thanks

Looks like it's gonna be only for data use.

There will be no dedicated voice plan, but there are ways to use your data plan for phone calls. You can get a Google voice number (free), combined with Groove-ip lite (free), you can make and receive phone calls with any data plan for free.

I wonder what the cheapest data plan out there is...  I've still got my Virgin Mobile $25 @ month which has 300 mins and unlimited data.  I don't know of anything any cheaper.

I think that info should be in a sticky somewhere because that answers a question that is going to be asked over and over now.
Thanks Loocid

Unlimited data sometimes means until you have used your share and now we throttle you.

Let me caution everyone HSPA+ may not be supported by a cellular provider in your coverage area, also the US carrier can decide that your tablet cannot qualify for a budget data plan and require a higher plan, (sorry but US users get raped by AT&T and Verizon), so check your provider support before assuming that the HPSA+ version will work for you. I would also be interested in hearing comments from anyone with HSPA+ coverage. Please remember that, I and most US cellular users, are tied to the provider with contracts and propriety enabled hardware, so we lack knowledge of the ROW (Rest Of World) market and a competitive provider market.

I am a newbie with question. Is the Nexus 7 32  HSPA+ model that won't be out until November 13th, the ONLY Nexus 7 that is 3G?

Also, will the Nexus 7 32gb  HSPA+ model be available in stores or only available from Google?

Yes, the 3g model only comes in 32gb.

So that means the Nexus 7 32gb that is in the stores now is 3g too?

No, the N7 32 (wi-fi) is not the N7 32 HSPA+ (3G).

No, the N7 32 (wi-fi) is not the N7 32 HSPA+ (3G).

Thank you, now I understand. The previous answer was saying that all 32gb Nexus 7s are 3g. Not the case. The only Nexus 7 that is 3g is the one that is coming out on 11-13-12, the Nexus 7 3gb NSPA+.

The reason I am asking is because I have the Nexus 7 32gb, but if I can get 3g and the other options for $50 more, I am going for it..

Thanks again,

Remember that just because the device is 3g capable, it doesn't mean that you will automatically have 3g connectivity. You must pay a monthly service fee to your local carrier for the data access.

I found that out too. At first I was thinking connectivity was built in for free!!  :D However, after asking a couple questions, I found out it wasn't the case. Going to try to get the cheapest local carrier that has 3g..

Be interesting to see what that 'cheapest local carrier' is going to charge.  Keep us updated cehowardn7.
