I can't imagine anyone dropping a pane of glass to the floor, and expecting it to survive.  Why in the world would they expect a glass-fronted tablet to survive similar treatment?

Depending on the circumstances I would expect some protection, after all it is Corning Gorilla Glass...

I've seen two different YouTube videos doing drop tests with the Nexus 7 and iPad, the second one including the iPad mini along with the large one.  Tablets were not in any type of case, nor did they have screen protectors.  In each instance the Nexus 7 proved to be more durable, and the large iPad suffered much more damage - surviving none of the tests.

While none of us will be intentionally dropping our tablets, sometimes the unexpected and unwanted happens.  That's why most of us get some type of case to protect our devices.  Thankfully, there are more and more options available.  We all look for one that most fits the way we use our tablets, our style preferences, our pocketbook, and seems to provide the needed protection.

I don't think anyone should be afraid of the build quality of the Nexus 7.  Buy it, enjoy it, and protect it like you would any other brand or size.

You would be surprised.

It's Corning and good glass. A diamond will chip or break if you hit it in the right spot.

If you are referring to my post I will repond.

Firstly, I was giving first hand experience of the exact problem the OP is concerened about, so input is legitimate.  Secondly,  I made a comment based on your childish and really rather unhelpful response to the OP.

As for bringing something helpful to the table - I suggest you look through some of my posts and you will find that I have resolved someones problem that no one else could, despite many suggestions, assisted and given advice on some good ways to use SatNav on Nexus and I actually responded, in this post, with something relevant.

Have a nice day.

Hi silvercue. Thanks for your inputs. Sorry to hear about your 2nd Nexus' mishap  (what happened to the 1st?). Looks like it boils down sometimes to luck whether a Nexus 7 survives a fall or not. What was the "highly recommended" case that failed? Would a TPU case fare any better in your opinion?

I don't know what the glass is, but i now know that I don't need a screen protector anymore. I tried offering my brother a case or screen protector for his naked Nexus and he declined as he proceeded to assault the screen with his keys. Needles to say, I cringed.... but to amazement, no damage!

Well. It happened. I was running up the street and the Nexus flew out of my pocket then got kicked up the street on its screen. Somehow the screen didn't crack. I have a major scratch by the lens of the camera and some major damage to the plastic on the left corner on then power end. The edge of the screen is exposed. Still ticking as far as posting goes. We will see.

I think if you look hard enough you can find horror stories about any product.  :)

At least it hurts a little less in the $199-$249 price range, compared to $500+ for other tablets.   :'(
