Headphones only playing into left ear

Hello all,

Has anyone else had issues connecting headphones to their nexus? Every pair I've tried only plays sound into the left ear.

Seems like the sloping case doesn't allow the jack to go all the way in. I've contacted Google support, but no reply yet.

Anyone else having problems, or have I got a dud?

I had that problem too. If the headphones have a mic on them, they won't line up properly. If the plug on the headphones has 2 black rings, they won't work. If there is only one ring, you should be fine. It's a strange issue in that any devices I've ever owned, the two are usually interchangeable. I just used this as an excuse to buy some Bluetooth ear buds!

:EDIT: Perhaps I meant three black rings. In any event, if h they have a Mic or any inline device like play/pause buttons, they don't seem to work.

No microphones on any of the pairs. They do all have two black rings, but isn't this standard?

I don't want to buy new headphones, as the pair I had been intending to use are a rather nice sennheiser pair. Given that one of the main uses I had planned for my nexus was in flight entertainment this means it isn't fit for purpose.

Edit:
I've seen adapters (for iphones) which apparently have the same problem. These have three rings on them, but look to be longer.  I guess these will just not interfere with the sloping case.

Will grab one (couple of quid on eBay) and report back.

I'm using my wife's I phone ear buds. Gotta make sure to push them in all the way but they work fine.

My headphones have the two black insulator rings on the pin and work fine. Notably the pin does not insert flush to the side of the tablet.

Two black rings mean they are stereo as opposed to mono headphones. They can be a bit tricky  to push in all the way but if you are sure they are fully home and still don't work your device is faulty.

You can also try backing the pin out slightly to see if your left and right channel on the on the headphone pin are not matching properly with the headphone jack on your tablet.

No amount of wiggling sockets in and out gets any right ear noise. I shall persist with trying to contact Google, looking increasingly likely I've received a defective tablet.

UPDATE:

After no replies from emails to Google, called them (0800 3286081 from UK) and they very quickly agreed it was faulty and they are sending out a replacement.

Moral of the story, don't bother emailing Google.
