Purchasing the nexus 7 from outside the Google play store
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:19:35 AM »
Did anyone here get his/her nexus 7 from outside google play ? I can't buy it from there since purchasing from google play is not available in my country yet.I'm asking because when google dropped down the galaxy nexus's price to 350$,it was still for around 450$ in the stores I visited so the nexus 7 might cost more if I got it from outside google play.I'm getting a galaxy s3 so I don't want to spend much on the nexus 7.

This probably won't help you but I bought mind at Walmart.  Not sure where you live.

I pre-ordered mine from Google Play, but your question got my curiosity going.  I did a Google search for where to purchase google nexus 7 tablet.  It looks like a lot of online shops are selling.

I think that as the popularity of the N7 increases, so will competition among retailers.  We might start seeing incentives like free shipping, store coupons, discounts on accessories, etc.

I, too, bought mine from Ebuyer here in the UK. They are offering free next day delivery, which meant I ordered it at 9pm and it arrived at 10 am the following day. Splendid stuff - and the £15 Play credit was automatically added on activation.

Of course we will.  Amazon's business is selling stuff.  I wonder if anyone will buy this Nexus 7 through Amazon?

They won't sell it directly. That has already been established by amazon but they will have vendors that will sell it for above retail on there.

I bought mine from Staples.  My son works there as an EasyTech and I got a 10% discount thru him so my 8G N7 only cost me $180.

From what I've heard the 16GB is sold out on Google Play.  I pick up two of the 16Gb from Newegg, my favorite electronics retailer.  My local stores had none in stock. A few of the other reputable online retailers were also out of stock on the 16GB.  I know that If I ever have a problem with the device, Newegg is really good about warranties and replacements.

So, I returned the two 16Gb Nexus 7's that I bought from Newegg.  I'm planning on buying two more 32gb 7's tomorrow.  What are the advantages and disadvantages of buying directly from Google compared to a brick and mortar store?

The original advantage was the play store credit, but that no longer applies.  I've purchased one from the play store and one from Wally's World.  The advantage of brick and mortar is that you get instant gratification.  You own it NOW!

I received the play store credit even though I didn't buy from Google.  I want to get the 32gb tomorrow at a local store, but I don't know that if something goes wrong with it, I will be able to get a replacement.  If I buy it elsewhere, will Google still honor the mfr warranty?

From what I have read, if you buy from Google Play, then Google handles the warranty and will reportedly cross ship in some cases. Buying from a brick and mortar or from an on line seller, then you are subject to their return/warranty policy, which if it is outside of the return period, usually means that it would go to Asus for repair. Asus, from my experience has very good repair service, but then again, you are looking at close to 3 weeks turn around time. My suggestion is to weigh instant gratification and no shipping cost against the additional "No Tablet" time in the event of the need for repair. Personally if I decide to give the Nexus 10 a try, I will go with the brick and mortar option.
