Give Tablet talk a try.  It syncs with the phone for SMS perfectly

2
I've noticed that a lot using foxfi.   I know on my tablet it seems to be grey icon is connected to the network my RAZR Maxx is emitting, and blue icon is when my tablet is receiving both the connection to my phones network as well as its internet connection.

I have some screen shots but they're huge and I don't have time to resize them right now.

Yeah I guess I may have to break down and get a blue tooth headphone set with mic.

Jpcalhoun which do you like better now that you've tried them both?

Nexus 7 Audio/Video / Re: Playing of home recorded video files on Nexus7
« on: September 17, 2012, 06:46:03 PM »
Newbie David here - I don't have a tablet yet and don't have any Android devices but Xmas is coming up!! I got some good response on reading EBooks on a Nexus7 now I have a question on Videos.  I record alot of movies off of TV (1940's to 1960's horror/sf) and turn them into AVI, MKV & MP4 files to watch again on the TV.  Will I be able to watch these movies (Mostly Black & White) on the Nexus7 and how will the quality look?  Tks for any response - David

   David,
Just browsed thru my files and they're all mp4's however all taken with my RAZR as well.   I wouldn't see why you would have any issues playing them.   The quality would depend on your end and what you're making them from right?   Get the scale for the device right and I would think they'd be fine.

I grabbed some good screen shots but I have to Photoshop the innocent out.  Once I get my son, I'll have him call my phone and I'll get screen shots of the incoming call on the nexus and maybe I'll even answer!

Jpcalhoun, thanks for the post!   I've been searching and wondering if there was a way to sms on this thing and your method works.

The only thing I don't like about it is it uses my Google voice number rather than my normal cell number so people I text have no clue its me until I explain it, which is fine really, I'm just searching for perfection is all lol.

Great way to SMS on the nexus though.  Thanks very much!
Yeah I hear what you're saying about having to use the google number for text.  The main reason I use the app is the ability to make phone calls using the Nexus 7.  However, I haven't figured out how to get the thing to receive phone calls.  All calls place against the google number ring on my Razr Maxx.

Tablet talk does the exact same thing.  I Bluetooth my RAZR Maxx to my Nexus 7 and start up tablet talk to connect them.  When my phone rings, caller id window pops up on my Nexus and gives me the answer option.   I have yet to answer with it but...    I think I would have to have Bluetooth headphones but not sure.  I'm in it for the texting however I can even  dial out using the Nexus.  If I can figure out how to post screen shots on here I'll do that in an hour or so after I get my son home.   Its pretty cool and well worth the price....and no middle man extra phone number!

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Have main issues been addressed?
« on: September 17, 2012, 05:17:07 AM »
I ordered mine on sept 7 and got it on the 12th.  The only issue I've had was turning it on the second time.  I called and they told me to hold the power button down for 45 seconds and that fixed it.

The customer service I had was simple yet pretty refreshing compared to other companies I've dealt with.

I was floored when I looked at the amount of data I use.  Verizon hates me.  I've barely used even half of what my sons used!  I'm close to 11 gigs and he's used almost 25!  I'm grandfathered into Verizon's unlimited and don't plan on "upgrading" any time soon !

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Allowing others to use my Nexus 7

Maybe you should just use your Nexus for personal things in the office and for the customers you should use a laptop or PC -Yoshi-

True and a good point.  I think I'd opt for what I did at home.  Single dad with a 15 year old son.  I knew when I bought mine that he would be all over it.  He has the same phone that I do so of course he'd be all over an N7.  No chance I'd let anyone use mine so I bought him an 8 gig version.

I'd go with that, get an 8 gig for the customers and keep the other for your personal use.   I think the customers would appreciate the concept behind using a Google device to post Google reviews on your business.   It shows organization, good conceptual ideas and skills as well as ties their shopping experience up with a great idea that they'll remember as they walk out the door and probably mention it to their friends.

Can't think of a better idea to excite the customer, give them something to talk about to their friends and bring in more business.  Make sure you add the option of E coupons and let them add your stores G+ page to theirs so theyre aware of specials you have!

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Jelly Bean and the Nexus7 With Google+
« on: September 16, 2012, 05:32:34 AM »
I use to use G+ on my RAZR Maxx a little.  Now its daily on my nexus 7.  The UI is much better with jellybean, I totally agree.

What's Facebook?!

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Smartphone Foxfi + Nexus 7?
« on: September 15, 2012, 12:48:52 PM »
It does depend on your phone/carrier as to whether you can use wifi or BT.  On my Motorola Triumph with Virgin Mobile the only thing that works is Bluetooth, not wifi.  I know many other phones do use wifi with FoxFi though.

Bluetooth is probably best and drained my battery on my RAZR Maxx less than WiFi but I'm using tablet talk for SMS and connect it via Bluetooth. Lol double drainage but so worth it.  I love this tablet and the entire android os.

How about a different browser?

Good call.  Or turn off cookies and uncheck remember my log info and have your cache clear when the browser closes.

You can also use tablet talk

Nice!!  I prefer that much better.  Its worth what they charge and exactly what I was looking for.   Thanks for the tip fxsarge

Gah!   My ocd couldn't handle that.   Did you both purchase your N7's online from Google or at a local store?   If on line, I would definitely call them and at least make them aware of what you're dealing with.  I had to for a minor issue and the problem was resolved right away.   That's for another posting though.

I got mine yesterday and absolutely love it.  Only problem now is I have to go to work and put it down!

Take it with you...

I agree, take it with you  8)

It's in my big fat hands as we speak and I'm sitting in the shop with little to do but wait for lunch with my lady and messing with my nexus!   God I love this thing and now that I can SMS with it....my RAZR Maxx is getting jealous!
