Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: Best Case/Cover For Nexus7
« on: September 21, 2012, 12:10:14 PM »
I can't give enough stars to this case after usng it for a week: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008RX2ZV4/ref=oh_details_o06_s01_i00

Thin as can be and hardly adds any thicknes to the device so it really does slip into back jeans pockets.  So far I haven't been stupid enough to sit down fogetting its there.  N7 slides in and out quite easy so I can easily pull out to mount in car.  Case magnets work like a charm.  And only $11.99!!!  Best case I've bought ever I think for any device.

Nexus 7 User Tips / Re: Transferring photos from camera to Nexus 7

I just started experimenting with using an EyeFi card in my camera which sets up a direct mode wifi connection with the tablet and downloads the images as you shoot.  You are then able to edit some and share to social media on the go.  When I get home I plug the N7 into my desktop and import the images into LightRoom and the harddrive for safekeeping, cataloguing and postporcessing.

Using this program at Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homeysoft.nexususb.importer  you can copy files from usb without root, but you cannot write to usb. My Nexus 7 is rooted so I use Stickmount to transfer either way.

Very goodand thanks!  I plan on probably rooting within a couple hours of my picking up my N7 later today as I've rooted all my Android phones.  I saw your post in the root, deleopment forum mentioning "This is the link to the One Click Toolkit at XDA Developers."  I assume that's still the place for me to start?  Thanks again.

If you do a search on ebay there are plenty that are sold for the Nexus 7. I bought mine from a guy in NY he shipped the next day. I am not sure if he ships international but worth a look.

I certainly see many brands being sold butthe fact that this thread exists leads me to believe that that' I'll run into one that doesn't work properly.  Meaning nothing connects when using it?

And a side question, does using the cable pretty much require root and StickMount?

Sling media. If their customer support wasn't so bad then maybe they wouldn't get such a hard time for the $ of  their apps and incompatibility issues.

Ditto.  When Sling Boxes first came out, I was an early adopter and became an evangelist for the technology.  Technology that just worked and lived up to the hype and promise which was rare back then and still now.  As the years have gone by I've had to upgrade my hardware box (notto mention exchange it a half-dozen times) as well as rebuy the software several times as I've changed mobile devices.  They've beeen anything but future proof yet I still love the idea of place-shifting.

I just recently bought another (cheaper) brand from Amazon.  What will be the symtom of its failure?  This IVSO brand only ships to UK addresses? Mine was rejected.

I've found it pretty hit and miss as to whether apps auto-install after flashing a ROM. I just flashed AOKP JB on my S2 and my apps didn't auto-install from GP but they did last week when I flashed CM10.
Usually I cancel them anyway and restore with Titanium, it's much quicker to do a batch restore when flashing between ROM's than waiting for GP to install them especially if there a bad data signal.

As for apps on your phone being the same as those for a tablet, it's probably best to install them through GP because any apps that are compatible with the N7 will say on the application information screen, "This application is not compatible with your device".
Some apps do have second versions for tabs but most are multi compatible, the only app I can think of off the top of my head that has two versions is Swift key but the phone version does actually work despite a warning once you open the app. I'm sure there are others but nothing I use that I remember.

Yep, Swiftket was one of the apps I was thinking about that had two versions.  The worst "offender" is Sling Player which appears to want another @29.99 for a tablet version different than the @29.99 "mobile" version not to mention the $29.99 iPad version that I have. I had always heard that they charged for versions from different store fronts i.e. Google Play vs. Aplle Store but I sure was hoping the Andorid would share a license across the phone and N7. :(

I think apps only auto-install on the same device, not sure if it's the device ID or the devices fingerprint that is used but none of my phone apps were installed on my N7 when I activated my N7.
Honestly, I wouldn't of wanted them to auto-install. I do have some of the same apps on both devices but some either don't work on the N7, don't work properly or I just plain wouldn't want them on my N7...

Oh, welcome to the Nexus 7 Forums jonv.

That makes sense.  It's been a while sence I switch switched ROMs on my phone but it seemes like Google would SLOWLY put back my apps yet I was usually impattient enough that I used Titanium Restore to do it quicker.  I could be wrong and my memories incorrect for sure.  I don't mind picking and choosing the apps for the N7.  If I'm correct in my asumption, I am assuming then that a purchased app is lisenced for all Android devices using Google Play without rebuying.  Although I am seing several apps have a "tablet" version which may imply another purchase, right?

First off, welcome to the forum jonv. Setup your tablet with the same Gmail account that you have on your phone, then go to Google Play then My Apps and swipe left or right until you see all and all of your purchased apps should be listed unless they are not compatable with your Nexus 7.

Thank you. Naturally I do intend to use the same Google account.  So I might end up listing my purchased apps but having to manually install each as well as my freebies one by one?  Could be worse!  And I assume having Titanium backups won't be of any help.  I was just woindering if it might be as easy as when I wipe for a phone ROM and Google just puts stuff back the way it was.

Arriving Friday. Dumb question perhaps but will all the Android apps from my phone automatically install themselves on the tablet if I have Google account backing them up?

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Slingbox for tablets or Slingbox mobile.
« on: September 11, 2012, 12:32:35 PM »
I broke down and bought a SB solo for football season. The thing is I bought the SB tablet app which was 30 dollars and the stream won't run without constant stutter when on hd. The other standard definition setting plays better but still is choppy. I tried the SB mobile app for another 30bucks but it didn't have hd but streamed better it seemed. I  returned it because I was already stuck with the one for tablets. Anyone with experience with getting this running right? I I was thinking maybe it's my Internet connection but netflix and YouTube run fine.
Thanks for any help!

Am I understanding you to say that you were required to buy the mobile version AND the tablet version separately at $29,.99 each?  I have it on my Android phone and also my iPad (which was a separate purchase due to different store fronts I was told) but I was hoping the Nexus would install the same Android version or at least use the same purchased license.  Sling doesn't make it easy to like them, do they?
