New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / YouTube ??
« on: September 10, 2013, 11:32:35 AM »
Hey Gang,

Anyone got an idea why my N7 won't connect to the web anymore?  The last update to my Gmail was on Aug. 29.  It shows that I have a very strong wifi sig.  But if I try to look at YouTube it says it can't connect.  My N4 and old N7 both connect fine.  I think everything in settings looks OK... not sure.  Anything I can check rather than doing a factory reset??

Wow, what a cool game on that new screen!  I hadn't played in a while and now I'm really diggin' this great RPG! The graphics are rich and engaging on our HD screen, the game play is first rate.  I hesitated to lay down the bucks but I'm glad I did in the end.  Lot's of play time here! Check it out.

New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Not enough space???
« on: August 08, 2013, 08:49:20 AM »
I was starting to set up my new tab but then I decided to root.  The process went smoothly but now, some kinda strange things are going on.  Before root, I had my favorite widget, Battery Solo, installed.  Since rooting wiped all of that I'm trying to re-install now.  But, every time I try to download, I get "insufficient storage available".  Any ideas what's up wid dat??

New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Now what?(!)
« on: August 04, 2013, 09:45:19 AM »
So I got my Gen 2 all nice and set up with the Nova launcher, my HD widgets, a couple of browsers I want to try etc.

I turn it on this morning and it hangs on the colored X boot screen.  Now this is the stock tab, I haven't fooled around with anything much, just added some apps.  So after waiting for it to come out of the boot screen for a long time I finally shut it back down.  This time, when I turned it back on, it didn't hang but it's back to mostly where it was new.  That is; no HD widgets app and the screen is back to it's stock looks.

I guess maybe I better get a hold of the HD widgets dev and see if he knows for sure it's compatible with 4.3.

I'm hoping this is just a little glitch in getting things set up and not a sign of instability!  I'll see how it goes... I'm loving the looks of this new tab but I hope it will be as reliable as my old one!

New Nexus 7 General Discussion Topics (2nd Gen) / Very Cool! But...
« on: August 03, 2013, 09:05:09 PM »
My 2nd Gen N7 came Friday and it is really cool!  I'm having fun loading it up with my favorite apps, widgets, etc. but I had one small 'glitch'.  The cord that came with it to charge it up won't properly attach!  The large end that goes to the charger is fine but when I try to plug it in to the tab, it won't go.  Now I haven't sat down and looked at the connector with a magnifying glass yet but without forcing it, it just won't go.  Fortunately, I still have my Gen 1 charger that works with this on just fine.  And the cord will work with the new charger.

So I called Google Customer Service and was told that they can't just send me a cord, or just the charger and cord.  I would have to pack up the whole tab with everything that came with it and they would send me another, I guess.  But I just think (and I told them so) that's lame!  They should be able to just toss a cord in an envelope and send it to me to make me a happy customer, but alas... no way!

So I do have cords I can use but I figured it might go a different way.  Live 'n learn...

New Nexus 7 Accessories (2nd Gen) / Asus Case?
« on: July 27, 2013, 10:14:59 AM »
I'd like to hear from anyone that has the Asus case for their new 7.  From the looks of it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Nexus-Official-Travel-Cover/dp/B00DY3J966

it's pretty cool like the one on my Gen 1 N7.  The auto-sleep cover and all the access holes, not adding too much bulk, comes in groovy colors etc.  Or maybe you found a better one?? Lemme know....

...telling me that they are on sale now!  But when I go to Amazon or even GP, I don't see where I can order.  On Google Play it says, 'Coming Soon' and grayed out.  On Amazon, only Gen 1 do I see...

Nexus 7 Apps / Help Surfing With Chrome...
« on: July 25, 2013, 10:19:05 AM »
A question for all my learned Nexus 7 colleagues...

To explain, I don't find myself doing much surfing on my tablet but I would love to do more!  It mostly has to do with the way that Chrome seems to work on mobile devices or, I'm afraid to say, that I don't know how to use Chrome in the way that I would prefer.  What I mean is, on this desktop PC that I'm using when I open Chrome, up comes my favorite home page (http://www.besthomepageever.com/) and I can surf from there.  Every new tab that I call up starts with my home page so it is familiar and I can simply use the search box there.  Also, I know where all of my 'most used' web pages are because I can simply look in the bookmarks.
So why can't I use Chrome in this fashion on my tab and phone??  How can I open a tab and have the page I always want to see come up?  Where the heck are the bookmarks in the mobile version of Chrome and how do I bookmark a page in the first place.  I guess maybe what might be helpful is a tutorial or video that explains how to use the mobile version of Chrome. I'm sure the tablet version must be just as powerful/versatile as the PC version, huh?  What am I missing here?  How can I set up my tablet browser so that it resembles the way that the PC version works??
Thanks for any help!

Anyone got any recommendations for a fun turn-based RPG?  I've got FF III but I've been looking at BlazingSouls too... What have you played that you would give 5 stars??

Nexus 7 Accessories / Anyone tried this dock??
« on: March 01, 2013, 05:09:12 PM »
Ran across this on Drippler: http://www.gearzap.com/google-nexus-7-case-compatible-desktop-sync-and-charge-cradle.html

This looks like just the ticket for my bedside dock.  It has a little insert that you can remove that makes room for a slim-fitting case.  Shipping is not too bad either.  Just wondering if anyone out there might have any 'hands-on' feedback.  I may just hve to go for this one unless I hear otherwise...

So I updated my NRT to v1.6.3 and was going to make a backup of my N7.  But now, when I try to make the backup, the "Checking ADB Status" sign comes on the screen and just stays there, forever!  And, I can't close the toolkit unless I turn off my computer.  My N7 is unlocked and rooted and USB debugging is checked.  So it's not working as smoothly as it once did.  Any suggestions??

Nexus 7 General Discussion / OK, I'll admit it...
« on: February 19, 2013, 10:34:01 AM »
I should have ponnied up the extra 50 bucks and went with the 16Gb model  :-[  Oh I'm managing alright at this point but I have bumped my head several times and had to uninstall a program or two so that I had some room to 'operate'.  Memory managers and the like can help with organization but you just can't make up for space that doesn't exist and when it gets too full, performance suffers.
So I've been considering eBaying my 8Gb baby and upgrading to the 32GB.  But then I think, well that's kind of a luxury at this point.  I've heard rumblings about a next generation N7, maybe later in the year(?) so I might just try and hold out to see what comes down the pike.... I don't think I'm falling into the 'keep waiting for the next, best, greatest gadget' trap, but if a new Nexus 7 is just around the corner, I think I can hold out a little longer.  Whada you think??

Nexus 7 Games / Pinball Arcade!
« on: December 21, 2012, 12:01:18 PM »
Anyone checked out Pinball Arcade??  It's so well and carefully done, it's almost out of the category of 'Games'.  If you've ever played any of these game then you know how well these tables are rendered.  The detail is amazingly accurate.  I know there are many 'pinball' type games out there but this one has got to be unique.  See what you think, Pinball Wizards....

Nexus 7 Apps / SnapPea Anyone??
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:23:30 AM »
I wonder if anyone on here is using SnapPea you their N7.  I just installed it on my N4/PC and it looks pretty cool for messing around with your android device via your PC.  I'm connecting via WiFi, rather than USB and it works great.  No need for rooting/unlocking, just putting the phone into usb debugging mode.  Anyone familiar with this program??
