Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / What's your favorite nex7 ROM?
« on: September 30, 2012, 05:26:55 PM »
Hi all. I've had my n7 since july. I rooted & unlocked almost right out f the box and I love this tablet dearly. Its by far my favorite gadget. Even better than my iPhone, by a long shot. Lol. I'm looking for suggestions for a great ROM. I played around with several at first until a came upon xenon HD about a month or so ago. This ROM has been great to me. Smooth, functional, customizable. All though xenon HD has been the bomb, I'm getting bored with it and ready to try something else. I would love for you guys to tell me your favorite nexus 7 ROMs and what you like about them. I'm thinking about flashing smooth ROM and giving the tablet ui a try. So please let me know which ROM is the best guys! Thanks :)

I recently switched over to team win recovery from cwm. I do like the ui and functionality way better then cwm. The problem I'm having is that I cannot access my back up files from my PC via USB. When I use the file browser that is built into twrp I can see the back up files in the twrp folder. When I plug my tablet into my PC via USB and open the twrp folder it is empty. Also when I open the twrp folder in es file browser it is empty there too. I would like to store the back up on my PC rather then on my tablet. Am I missing something? I was having this same problem with titanium with backed up apps so I upgraded to the paid version and uploaded my back ups to Google drive. After that I looked in the titanium back up folder again on my PC and all the sudden the files were there when before they were not. Its very frustrating. Please help.

Nexus 7 Help / Not Clear On How Storage Works...
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:05:44 PM »
I have an 8 gig nex 7. Currently my tablet has 0 downloaded apps. The only things it has on the storage is what ever comes with the custom rom I have flashed. When I first got the the tab a couple weeks ago I didnt plug into a computer and never really paid much attention to the available storage. Im plugged into my pc now and im showing 3.61 gb free of 5.91 gb. Does this mean that an 8 gig only actually has room for 3.6 gigs of apps, pics, notes etc? Or is it because i am rooted and running a custom rom? Sorry if this is a dumb question but i am completely new to android. I assumed the 8 gig would have 5.9 gigs of user storage. If i were to unroot and re lock and go back to stock, would this be the case?

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Overclocking and voltage?
« on: August 18, 2012, 08:13:31 PM »
I recently flashed a new trinity kernel on my nex7. After doing so I purchased trinity tool box from the play store and now have the ability to make several tweaks to my CPU. The only problem is that I have very little knowledge on CPU overclocking. OK first off what is an I/O scheduler? The options to choose from in this setting are noop, which it is set to by default, deadline and cfq. I have no idea and found nothing online. I have the CPU set at 51 mghz minimum and 1600 mghz max. The setting will go as high as 1700 mghz and off course I did turn it up all the way to see how it would operate and I could almost immediately feel the CPU heating up. So now I leave it at 1600. The CPU governor I have set to on demand. The voltage going to the CPU is also adjustable. It is adjusted it different steps of CPU output. In other words there are several voltage adjustments that can be made. I played with them a little and just put the back to default. Then there are a few toggle settings. WiFi pm better for streaming or battery. Force non boot cpu(s) online or offline. Lastly there's fsync faster or safer. I have no idea what any of these are. I've played with some if these and have also had adverse effects such as browser crashing and the native setting app not responding. If anyone could give me some knowledge on any of this it would be greatly appreciated.

I backed up all my user apps on titanium back up. When I open the file browser on my tablet and look in SD/titanium back up I can see all the back up files there like they should be. The problem is when I plug the tablet into my PC via USB and look in the same folder I see nothing. The titanium back up folder is there but when I open it its empty. I want to copy the back up to my PC so that I can wipe everything and flash a new kernel then restore my apps and settings. The back up files are not visible on my PC and I don't understand why.

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Rooted, now what?
« on: August 14, 2012, 09:45:03 PM »
I took the leap and rooted my nex 7. The first thing I did after setting everything up was a clean cwd back up. I'm new to android and this is my first rooted device. I did a search here for suggestions on what apps and/or Roms/kernels to play with after rooting but didn't really turn anything up. Just looking for suggestions as to what apps, file managers, Roms and the like I should start out with.

Nexus 7 Help / Task killer - Bad. What about cache cleaner.
« on: August 12, 2012, 06:58:52 PM »
When I first started using my nex7 I installed and was using es task killer, that is until I read that this is generally a no no with android. My question- is it OK to use the cache clearing option in es? If so when and how often.

Nexus 7 Help / How to remove rubbish files?
« on: August 11, 2012, 09:19:39 PM »
I've been working with the nexus 7 for about two weeks. I'm new to android and still in the process of learning. Back when I first got my N7 I had found an option to remove rubbish files. I selected the option and the Tablet responded that there were no such files at that time. Now that I have installed and uninstalled several apps I would like to run this option again. Only problem is I cannot remember where I found the option. Can someone please direct me?  :)

Nexus 7 Help / Flash on N7?
« on: August 04, 2012, 01:19:48 AM »
I just received my nexus 7 in the mail today. I'm curious on what I need to do in order to view flash video online. From what I've read in the play store it says that adobe flash doesn't support Jelly Bean. I found a website with instructions but it says I need root permission in order to move a certain downloaded file into /system/apps folder. I downloaded the app and figured out where to move it but the tablet will not allow me to move the app out of the download folder. Does my tablet need to be rooted for me to obtain root permission? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm. A long time ios user and android is all new to me.

« on: August 04, 2012, 01:06:44 AM »
Hi all I'm a long time iphone user and am just now checking out my first Android device via the 8gb nexus 7. I figure for $200 I can't go wrong. Still adjusting from an ios engrained mind but so far it's not bad. A couple issues that I will get into later in the forum. Btw my names Phil and I'm from Northern California.
