Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Re: Driver Problems...
« on: May 08, 2013, 09:15:58 PM »
Back when I first got started with my nexus 7 and android as well I didn't know anything about adb/fastboot. I also found mark skipens toolkit to be the most helpful. Now a days I just use adb and fast boot. I first rooted my nexus 7 on a vista os with no problems. I find the easiest solution for drivers is the universal naked drivers found at XDA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766220

Thanks for all the amazing replies! I'm currently running an awesome ROM called Bigfoot. I don't believe it can be found on XDA or any forum but it is available at the developers website. It is packed with features and it's super stable.http://drewgaren.com/DrewGaren.com/BF_DL_grouper.html

Come on! Nobody?
I just cannot figure for the life of me why I need to root. I keep seeing people say this room is smooth no lag and all that jazz but my n7 never lags and it's stock out of box and I couldn't imagine it runnin smoother. That being said I guess I'm kinda jealous bc this is my first android anything and I don't get it like did my windows stuff. I would run Ubuntu on my win laptop.is that the equivalent? I always came back to windows anyways. I feel like since this is fine for me keeping it stock then I must not know something. There musty be appsthat I done know about this stock n7 is running fine to run pocket and rascally and chrome every now and then. I'm missing
something and don't know what or is.help

The thing I enjoy most about having my nexus 7 rooted is being able to run different versions of android that have many settings and customizations that you just won't find in stock jelly bean. These settings make for much added functionality. Plus its fun testing out different modified versions of android and testing out all the different settings until you find that sweet spot where your nexus 7 becomes a beast. This tablet was designed to be hacked! But its still a fine gadget stock as well!

I don't use anti virus on my nexus 7. I've had one since they came out and haven't had any problems. Just be cautious of what I download.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Cant connect to Laptop running Ubuntu
« on: December 12, 2012, 06:05:19 AM »
I run Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop and I use a nice little program that can be found in the Ubuntu software center call gmtp. Just download gmtp on you Ubuntu PC then start the program. Plug in your nexus 7 into a USB port and click the connect button on gmtp. Wait about 20 seconds or so and you will have access to our nexus 7 internal SD.

I am also having problems with Google search. The problem is that it's not working...at all. Earlier today I got an update via play store for Google search and ever since it has not worked. I uninstalled the update via settings/apps and Google search worked one time after and then stopped working again. Google now will give me cards and voice response but no Google search results. Anyone know what's going on?

Thanks for your replies guys. Paranoid is actually the first ROM I ran on this tablet. Code name android sounds very promising. For now I went with smooth ROM and I'm utilizing the Franco kernel along with it. I opted out of the optional tablet ui because of reported bugs. I went ahead and lowered my DPI to 160 which gives me a kind of hybrid ui along with nova launcher. The ROM itself is very basic containing absolutely no ROM settings or tweaks within itself. Its very close to stock. That being said I am very happy with performance. As the ROMs name suggests it is very smooth. No lag or hiccup at all. I ran a quadrant benchmark and came in just under 5000 without any tweaks to the kernel. With the DPI lowered to 160 it makes things appear very small on screen. Im contemplating flashing the tablet UI patch but I'm not sure if this ROM is supported. If anyone has info on that please share. I would still like to ask you guys, my fellow n7 users to please still let me know what your favorite ROMs are.

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / What's your favorite nex7 ROM?
« on: September 30, 2012, 05:26:55 PM »
Hi all. I've had my n7 since july. I rooted & unlocked almost right out f the box and I love this tablet dearly. Its by far my favorite gadget. Even better than my iPhone, by a long shot. Lol. I'm looking for suggestions for a great ROM. I played around with several at first until a came upon xenon HD about a month or so ago. This ROM has been great to me. Smooth, functional, customizable. All though xenon HD has been the bomb, I'm getting bored with it and ready to try something else. I would love for you guys to tell me your favorite nexus 7 ROMs and what you like about them. I'm thinking about flashing smooth ROM and giving the tablet ui a try. So please let me know which ROM is the best guys! Thanks :)

My phone serves two purposes now. Calls and tether. I use my Nex7 for everything else!
Same here. I have an iPhone 3gs. I know, ancient. But I pretty much just use my iPhone for calls, text, and 3g tether. Nex 7 for everything else.

Ha ha. I remember when I did that. Accidentally erased the whole OS from my beloved n7. I was freaking out and thought I bricked my tablet. I used the same method to fix mine. Haven't done it since.

Thanks norcal thats helpful.

I have got a 3G sim through my company. I currently use a HP netbook for my daily work when im out and about. The company i work for are developing a way to use out systems offline! You just update what u need on a wifi network before you leave for work.

I think its best to hold off to see if they will create app for android. They currently have a VERY early version on the ipad but dont want to spend £500 for ipad.

I tried the nexus today in a store. Works really well and downloaded sopcast. It wouldnt let me play becuase it said i had to download it from main site.

Maybe you could try it for me on yours?
Actually bad news on the sopcast. I looked it up in the plat store and in the reviews the only thing a read from nexus 7 users is that it currently doesn't work on nexus 7. Bummer.

@ norcal618

Great feedback, I have been working on permissions in regard to access using MTP. Can you post the permissions for your new TWRP folder?
Here are the permissions for the twrp folder, running the most up to date version of twrp. rwxrwxr-x
