Nexus 7 Vs. The Competition / Nexus 7 32 vs Nexus 10
« on: October 31, 2012, 04:10:35 PM »
I swore I was going to stay at ease with my 16 when hearing the news of a possible 32. After all, I have OTG for my usb storage and a 32gb Kingston WiDrive for no strings attached space. Now, the 7/32 is a reality and the Nexus 10 release is right around the corner. I really want a rear camera and HDMI is a plus . The screen resolution looks like it will be breathtaking. Sound is very important to me and I have to say my 7 does not do a good job without an app to boost the volume of the speakers. I don't expect premium audio at even a $500 price point but in the case of my 7 I really strain to hear it sometimes and don't like to crank it because it starts to to distort. Part of the problem is the rear facing setup and addition of my case blocks the sound. I think I saw the 10 will have front speakers. That for me, should help immensely. Again, I understand that when you get into sound quality and speakers we are talking about something that can cost thousands and thousands of dollars. I just would like to know how much better a performer my big brother is. I use Bluetooth for sound now mainly because of the poor performance of the speaker when I first bought it. It's funny, My first tablet I bought on a whim. The Samsung 2 7.0 while browsing at my local Microcenter. I wanted something to run my mp3+G files and nobody in sales could answer the questions so I took a shot. It was on sale and the Nexus wasn't on display. I figured out how to play the files and with a 32gb mini sdcard to add to the 8 gigs of on board I was a happy camper. The speaker was adequate for Netflix and youtube. In my process of shopping backwards I then discovered this forum and the Nexus 7. Quad core.. Jellybeans..and butter. Google madness. etc.. 249$ Where is the catch? Can't be that inexpensive? I asked myself. Ok. No back camera and no micro sd I can live with that and went and exchanged it. Opening that box in the car I was now a NEXUS junkie.
To bring to an end this novel of a post I ask. Is the MSRP for the Nex10 justifiable? Is this machine that is a little bigger that much better? Is it going to perform faster or smoother at times where my Nexus 7 has shown signs of lag?
I am thinking this. If it outperforms my 7 by leaps and bounds I might go for the 16gb and buy a Gauntlet 320 gb wireless drive for about 125 120 bucks and be set.

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Hurricane
« on: October 28, 2012, 10:02:45 PM »
Been prepping for the hurricane all day and night. It's amazing how hard it is to find a C battery when you really need one. Forget about bread and milk. Praying that the electricity holds up long enough to run our little pump in the basement.
Peace.

I can watch my Slingbox on my Nexus and it runs well as long as there is a good wifi signal. As soon as I start my speakers the video won't run very well. It stops and starts. I thought it might have been the cheap Bluetooth speaker I had bought so I  replaced it with a JBL flip and I have the same problem. I guess it is just a bug in the Slingbox app. 30 dollar app with like zero support.

Nexus 7 Android OS (Jelly Bean) / Calender Icon
« on: October 20, 2012, 08:43:09 PM »
Did anyone notice that the calender icon changed with the new update but the old icon for the calender didn't update if you have it your Google apps folder. I had to manually get rid of the old and add the new.
Nothing major just trying to keep up with the goings on with my tablet.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / 16gb Nex7 for sale
« on: October 19, 2012, 11:41:43 PM »
Now that it is confirmed that Staples is already selling the 32, I just posted my 16 on Craigslist. I am hoping to get 200 to absorb some of the cost of the new one. Is that a fair price?

In a nutshell I deleted the last line of text that I had added to the
build. prop for rotation. Saved and temporarily unrooted with OTA RootKeeper. I then went into Apps/ ALL and forced the update by opening Google Services Framework/ Force stop/ clear data/force stop. I then went to about device and update. The date should read Dec of 1969. Tap update once or twice and it should start the process. After updating I restored root with OTA ROOTKEEPER.
I hope this helps someone.

Nexus 7 Google Play Account Discussions / Charged twice
« on: October 01, 2012, 08:02:09 AM »
I don't know how it exactly happened but I bought Horn and the wallet used an old card so it got kicked back. I then purchased it again and I received an email for two purchases. It seems that they automatically charge your active card the initial purchase. So I paid twice. Luckily it was on sale and wasn't the normal price. 50 cents is a bargain for that game. Looks great!

Nexus 7 Help / Huge file games
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:39:53 PM »
With the space restraints I always find myself freaking out about not jamming up my device. It seems like some of these games are close to 2gb. I have a few games loaded and it's taking its toll. How do you handle this? Only load one game at a time and keep others at the store? I the 25cent sale did me in. Is there an uncomplicated way of storing and playing games and apps off of a memory stick?

The Lounge: Off Topic Forum / Help
« on: September 29, 2012, 02:35:14 PM »
Hello. My name is BJS and I am addicted to The Nexus 7. When not at work I am constantly feeding my habit. I sometimes have resorted to using at work when I need to make a list or check my Facebo...Er, I mean write down an important document. My family is starting to worry. Just last night my wife found me in bed with the Nexus at 4am. I can't go anywhere without this frikken thing without jonesing. WTF? I have chargers, cords and sticks stashed in my car, my pockets, and under my bed. People see me lately and ask if I have lost weight. I blankly look up from the screen and say thanks.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Tapatalk, SwiftKey tablet and Smileys.
« on: September 28, 2012, 09:48:38 AM »
I don't know where the bug is coming from but did anyone notice that if you are posting with Tapatalk and you hit the little smiley icon the keyboard pad goes blank. If you tap the empty space, random smiley combos of text appear. Am I missing something here? I'm not really an emoticon kinda guy but I would like to know if it works.

Nexus 7 Help / Screen Lift!
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:16:04 PM »
Wow! I never really looked that closely but I felt my nail catch something tonight and I have screen lift! Outside of that little flicker I thought I had a nearly perfect unit. My screen is raised on the left side just above the bezel. It is hardly noticeable but when you look its there. I spoke with Asus and they want me to send it in. They said it could be 14 business days to get it back. There is no way I am sending this thing away for three weeks now.  I think I am going to wait until some of these problems are dealt with and the units are being shipped clean of defects. I am stunned right now. I thought I looked this thing over with a fine tooth comb.
I hate the thought of not having this thing for weeks after just getting it. Damn. I feel like the guy in Platoon that says " I never thought l'd get hit"...

Nexus 7 Help / Screen lightning
« on: September 22, 2012, 09:24:13 PM »
I have heard about flickering more than the issue that is present on my Nex7. I saw some videos on the flickering but thankfully mine is nothing like that. It had not really bothered me in the past but it is happening more often. The best way to describe it is a perfect dark line that runs down the screen usually either 1/4 of the way in from the top left or the same from the right side. It is just like a flash of lightning and then it is gone. I really don't want to have to send my tablet in for repair and be without it or even worse get one that has more problems like screen lift. I have read about folks having to send back handfuls of these things. I bought mine at a big box store and it is past the amount of time that I can take it back there. Now that I discovered I have screen lift as well its only a matter of time before this thing goes back. I think I am going to ride it out for a while until they get their stuff together. I want my replacement to be right.

Nexus 7 Help / Keyboard lag
« on: September 19, 2012, 02:41:06 AM »
I am having trouble with keys not registering more and more. When it starts to happen the little keyboard icon pops up on the top left task bar asking to choose input method. I use Swift tablet. When you choose like it asks it is already setup the right way. I am getting tired of it happening. I sometimes have to reboot. It seems to pop up mostly when I am typing in the forums.
