Something happened a few days ago that didn't get much coverage in the major tech press. That something was the inadvertent confirmation of an HTC built Nexus 9 featuring a K1 processor by Nvidia and expected to be launched in 3Q 2014. This confirmation comes via legal document that was released on the Nvidia website as part of a law suit it is involved in against Qualcomm and Samsung about some infringing patents regarding an Nvidia GPU. The specific text cited says: “The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1.” This goes along with the rumors that have been going on for the past couple of months regarding Google's successor to the Nexus 7 and all we are waiting on now are exact specs and pricing as well as a date. The above pic is another leak that was unconfirmed but seems to feature the specs expected of the upcoming Nexus 9 'Volantis' tablet by HTC and shows specs such as 2048x1440 display, 64bit Logan K1 processor, stereo speakers and super thin design. As some of you may know there's been endless rumors of just what the follow up to the Nexus 7 2nd generation will be. A 3rd generation Nexus 7? A Nexus 8? How about a Nexus 9?! That's right, one of the more recent reports is that Google might actually have a 9 inch tablet as the replacement but that's not all. There's also reports that Google might actually come out with a new line of 3 tablets. That's right...3! A 7 inch, 9 inch and 12 inch. Most reports have HTC as the manufacturer and have these featuring state of the art processors and new high resolution screens that exceed 1080p. So what are your thoughts folks? Would you buy a 9 inch tablet? How about a 12? Or is the 7 inch original the best way to go?

I don't post many non-Nexus 7 deals on the site but this one is good enough to do so. Chromecast now lets you mirror your screen natively via your Android tablet or phone. No 3rd party app required. This was a functionality that was discussed and promised during Google I/O a couple of weeks ago and now they've followed through. Chromecast apps will now show a 'cast screen' option and Nexus devices will even have the option in the settings menu so you don't have to use the Chromecast app itself. This is an awesome feature that makes your Android device and Chromecast even more powerful. I'll be surfing my web and using my big screen tv while controlling it all from my Nexus 7 from now on. The update is rolling out as we speak and over the next few days in both the Chromecast app via a 1.7 update as well as individual updates for various phones by Samsung, LG, HTC and others.

Last week was Google's 7th annual I/O conference held in San Francisco. During I/O Google shows all the latest projects it's working on and this year the two 'stars' of the show were Android Wear, Google's version of Android for the wearable platform such as smart watches, and Android L, which is destined to be the next version of Android and features a new graphical language called 'material design'. Since we know some Nexus 7 owners are more than just casual users and love seeing all the nitty gritty and latest cutting edge stuff from Google we thought we'd link the full Keynote video above for your viewing pleasure. It's a long video...over two hours...and it covers a lot of ground and touches on other topics such as developments in Chrome, a version of Android targeted to developing markets called 'Android One', Google TV, Chromecast, and much more. There's also the first look at some hardware for the wrist...three smart watches for the new Android Wear platform. We have a dedicated site for Android Wear that we invite you all to join as this exciting new platform continues to develop and grow in popularity. It's at Android Wear Forum. So Digitimes.com is reporting that HTC will be making the next small Nexus tablet and it'll be called the Nexus 8 and released this summer. Take it with a big grain of salt however cause Digitimes is hit or miss with their rumors/reporting. http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/21/htc-nexus-8/#continued

As some of you might know, Google introduced a brand new device platform earlier this week specifically for wearable devices. 'Android Wear' is based on the Android OS and features notifications and Google Now functionality along with a specialized SDK for apps, games and more for wearable devices. Along with the announcement several manufacturers either announced or previewed upcoming Android Wear devices including Motorola, LG, Sony, Fossil, Sony and more. Google made a bunch of new announcements over the past couple of days. Most pertinent to Nexus 7 fans is that their 7 inch tablet will now be made available in 8 additional countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden. Available through the Google Play Store in each respective market, this will give customers the ability, as in other areas where the Nexus 7 is available, the ability to purchase the phone direct without a contract from carriers. Prices fluctuate depending on country so check with your local market. The Nexus 5 phone is also available in the same additional markets and the Chromecast has been made available in some of them as well. Thus we should be welcoming a lot of new Nexus and Android fans to our exclusive fan base! Google Support

it now appears ACARS and tracking systems were switched off at different times, while plane was inflight. than MUST have been done in the cockpit, so my guess is hijacked by flight crew, or terrorists???
The Yanks know more, but will keep silent, because they don't want people to know the monitoring capabilities they have......
From what I've read the transponder and different parts of the ACARS can fail separately if there's a fire or short circuits going on in the plane. Apparently ACARS isn't just one thing but a series of different systems...there's a good article about how a catastrophic event could cause all the different shutdowns and turns and changes in altitude on CNN today. Also, Malaysia has backtracked on their assertion that the last contact with the pilots was after the systems were shut down. Now they're saying the ACARS sends info every 30 minutes and they received the last contact before the last conversation with the pilots. But they never got the next one 30 minutes later. So since the transponder went out 2 minutes after the last convo with the pilots it's conceivable the ACARS systems went out after that contact as well. If there's one thing I've learned following this whole thing it's that Malaysia is definitely over their head in handling an investigation of this size. They release erroneous or misleading info and apparently are refusing to cooperate with either the Chinese or the US FBI. I think they're just trying to cover their butts.

Any thoughts or theories on what happened to the missing flight 370? My theory is this: Most likely scenario is a cockpit fire similar to what happened to EgyptAir Flight B772 in 2011. A massive catastrophic fire in the crew cabin that destroyed the controls and electronics, made the windows impossible to see through, burnt a hole right through the planes metal. The crew would have no way to communicate with the ground…and no way to control the aircraft. The plane would be full of smoke and they’d all basically just be stuck sitting in the airplane praying until it crashed. In the EgyptAir incident they never 100% nailed down the cause but it was suspected to be a bad oxygen hose attachment combined with some short circuit….but the oxygen leak fueled the fire and made it impossible to put out. In the EgyptAir incident it took place on the ground and it took 90 minutes for firefighters to put the blaze out even though they were on the scene within minutes. If this happened at 35,000 feet…all would be lost. Here’s a link to a related article on it.
