I know that some newer Android phones allow the image from the screen to be replicated on another screen via a cable of some sort. Is that possible with the 2012 Nexus 7? If so, what app(s), cable(s), etc. would I need. My Nexus 7 is not rooted. What rooting be necessary for something like this?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / T-Mobile 200 MB Free Data« on: November 14, 2013, 05:46:31 PM »
My wife mentioned to me that she heard something about a T-Mobile 200 MB of data for free deal. I tried searching here, but I can't seem to locate the discussion on it. Anyway, it sounds too good to be true. Is this legitimate and how do I set this up if this i legitimate?

Nexus 7 Accessories / Adapting A Dock As A Dash Mount« on: April 27, 2013, 07:56:21 AM »
It could be done, but I would not recommend it. I would suggest a dedicated GPS from Garmin that has an MP3 player, that is if you mean by music player. If you mean streaming audio, then perhaps a smartphone that has an OEM windshield mount might be in order. I am particularly partial to Garmin maps, but I do have TomTom on my Nexus 7. I do have the ASUS dock and that is why I would not recommend it for what you are thinking about. If you really want a good mount for the Nexus 7, I would keep searching. There must be something that is good quality out there. Maybe if you search here it has already been posted.

I just found out about Bobj Rugged Case for Nexus 7. Has anybody here tried one of these yet? It looks like it might slip on and off a little bit quicker than the OtterBox I tried this weekend!

Nexus 7 Accessories / OtterBox: Your Google Nexus 7 Defender Series Case Is Available To Order!« on: April 22, 2013, 06:12:16 PM »
I picked this up this weekend from a local Wal-Mart. It is well made, but it was a challenge to open it up and since I will want the ability to remove it from the case quickly to use the ASUS dock, I decided to return this. So, I guess I will navigate around here and see if there are other threads on cases. I want a good case, BUT I also want the ability to remove it from the case fairly quickly. Does anybody know if that is possible with other somewhat rugged cases?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Nexus 4 To Nexus 7 Tethering« on: April 21, 2013, 04:17:12 PM »
Thank you for the replies. I should have specified that I have T-Mobile now, BUT I would likely get a pre-paid SIM card for an AT&T MVNO.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Nexus 4 To Nexus 7 Tethering« on: April 21, 2013, 08:59:06 AM »
I currently have both a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7. I am on T-Mobile for the Nexus 4 and although my Nexus 7 is a cellular version, I typically just use wifi. Later this year my family and I will be camping at Mille Lacs Kathio State Park in central Minnesota. Typically, we have some T-Mobile service, but it is 2G, at best. So, I might be inclined to get a pre-paid SIM card for that trip. If I understand things correctly, I could put the SIM card in the Nexus 4 and tether to the Nexus 7 or vice-versa. Anyway, which would be preferable or would it even matter? I am inclined to things that simply getting service on the Nexus 7 would be preferable and then other family members could tether from the Nexus 7 and if I left the area, I would still have my Nexus 4 with me. At least, I am ASSUMING that there are pre-paid SIM service available for tablets. Anyway, what people here do it the way I suggested or is there some reason to get pre-paid service on the NExus 4 and tether to that? Oh, and on a side note, I do have an extra phone or two to insert my existing T-Mobile SIM card in, if that matters.

Nexus 7 Connect (MicroUSB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, Pogo Pin) / T-Mobile Tethering Between Google Nexus 4 And Nexus 7« on: April 14, 2013, 09:02:59 AM »
I have been a T-Mobile customer for quite a while now, but I have never really paid much attention to tethering. My plan is:
Even More Plus 750 Talk + Unlimited Text • 750 whenever minutes • Unlimited weekend minutes • Unlimited weeknight minutes • Preferred Android Web I got a Google Asus Nexus 7 for Christmas and I just bought a Google LG Nexus 4 recently. Anyway, now that I have been using both of them I have been wondering about tethering when I am not within wifi range for the Nexus 7. I seem to recall reading that tethering can be an issue. I called T-Mobile to add tethering, but they wanted to change my whole plan. Anyway, when or if I decide to tether, what is the best way to do it? Should I select: -Bluetooth Tethering -Wifi Tethering -USB Tethering I suspect that tethering via USB is always going to be faster than either Bluetooth or Wifi, isn't it? Also, if I am in an area of poor wifi, can I use a phone as a "repeater"? For example, can I place my phone in an area and receive wi-fi and then send data via Bluetooth to my Nexus 7? Or, is wi-fi to wi-fi tethering possible? Also, with regards to battery life, I assume that either Bluetooth or wifi tethering will use more power than USB tethering. I suppose if I connect a charger it won't matter. What about range with Bluetooth vs. wi-fi? I seem to recall reading that wi-fi range is better than Bluetooth. Is Bluetooth only allow a range of 20 or 30 feet and wifi perhaps 150 feet or is that way off? What cable(s) do I need for wired tethering? Since both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 use micro USB, do I simply need a cable with micro USB connectors on each end or do I need something more? Also, are these cables easy to find at MicroCenter, Best Buy, or Radio Shack? 30

I did order the OtterBox this morning, but the price can up as $46.95! Does anybody happen to know how WalMArt.com pricing works? Do they vary the pries by location or time of day?
Also, I have the Nexus 7 with cellular connectivity. Does the OtterBox cover up the microphone? If so, could I just drill a small hole in the OtterBox for the microphone?
