I use Google calendar. As with all Google apps it syncs across all devices, and is especially helpful if you also use gmail. Calendar is a default app on the N7. I'll schedule an appt. on the N7 calendar, for example, and have it send me a reminder via email, which I will receive on both my PC and N7. You can set reminders to arrive a day, half day, hours, and/or 10 minutes before the event.

Is it possible what you're seeing is simply automatic updates turned on so your apps are automatically being updated?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / KitKat 4.4.2 issues I've experienced
« on: December 19, 2013, 04:30:50 PM »
Hello,

I've been using my Nexus 7 with the new 4.4.2 update for one week now and I've noticed a few issues/concerns -- I should emphasize that I use the N7 daily, and for some hours at a time.

1) When the N7 is turned off and charging, I used to be able to do a quick press of the power button to see the charging status; not so any longer. A quick press does absolutely nothing, and holding the button just a split second too long simply turns on the device.

2) Boot-up process seems to take forever, including the UCCW and Minimalistic Text widgets that I have on the homescreen.

3) Battery use has taken a huge hit; when I check the usage I see that the screen is using 65%. I have no idea where this is coming from since I'm using the same screens, widgets, etc. since before the update and I have the screen brightness as low as it will go.

4) WiFi comes and goes a lot; I'll be checkiing the Play Store or some post in G+ and will get a msg. that there is no WiFi connection. Never encountered this before the update.

5)  I use the Swype keyboard with a stylus that worked near flawlessly before the update. Now, I get garbage letters and random spaces instead of words. Though I just read today that Swype has an update that deals with KitKat compatibility issues, so hopefully this one has been resolved. (I hope so because it's been frustrating as all get out to be typing garbage.)

6) And lastly, I'm really ticked off that App Ops has been eliminated in 4.4.2. I really appreciated the ability to monitor -- and disable -- permissions on all my apps.

That's the immediate stuff that comes to mind.

Anyone encountering the same issues (1 through 4) or have you seen others?

Nexus 7 Help / unable to find Play Music downloaded music files
« on: November 23, 2013, 07:38:09 PM »
Hello, All --

Been a while; work has kept me overwhelmed of late....

I have two downloaded tracks from my Google Play Music library on my device. They are pinned, but I've confirmed their existence by playing both tracks with WiFi off.

But, I can't find where on my device the two songs are located, and neither can the GoneMad Music Player App. A scan yields nothing. And I've use ES File Explorer to search every data and cache file on my device. Nada.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: Mini MicroSD Card Reader for Android

My Meenova just arrived in the mail --

But I can't seem to pop the cap on the device to reveal the micro male USB. I'm afraid to force it and break it. Any secret you can share to removing the cap?

Thanks.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Question on Android Device Manager
« on: September 26, 2013, 10:27:51 PM »
Thanks, JayJ, appreciate your help, as always.

I followed all the steps as you listed them. ADM still was unable to locate my N7 ("Location unavailable") -- and yet I was able to send a ring command (though it seemed to take a lot longer than 5 min.) as well as a screen lock command.

So I guess it sorta works.

Nexus 7 Help / Question on Android Device Manager
« on: September 25, 2013, 05:40:45 PM »
Hello, all -

I've activated Android Device Manager on my N7; I've confirmed that GPS, etc. is "on."

When I go to the Android Device Manager website on my PC to locate my N7, after some searching, I get a msg the "location unavailable" -- which is weird, as the N7 is sitting on the desk right next to the PC. Both, in fact, are connected to the same WiFi network.

Is there some other N7 setting I'm missing that would enable this location process?

Thanks.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / question re: music apps
« on: September 03, 2013, 08:56:59 PM »
Are there any music apps, with a full equalizer (and possibly a widget, album cover access), etc. that can access one's music in the Google cloud --

Or, do all music apps (Google Play Music aside) only access the music that is specifically loaded on the device?

I was checking out the n7 player app, and it appears to me that it can only access the music stored on the device; since I don't store music on my device, am I forever stuck with Google Play Music?

Cheers. And thanks for your time and response(s).

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: App backups -- not
« on: September 01, 2013, 03:03:14 PM »
Thanks for your response, JayJ.

I did a bit of online searching and found Helium (formerly Carbon). I completed one level of my game, and then backed it up using Helium. I then uninstalled the app. Using Helium, I restored the app to my N7 and lo and behold there was the full completed first level!

It's my fault for not doing a test run like this on both AirDroid and My Backup Pro. Both have been uninstalled from my N7 as they are fairly worthless, at least to me. Helium is now my new backup for app data -- because it works.

But, yeah, a drag to have lost all that data, even though I was doing what I thought was the correct/right thing to do.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / App backups -- not
« on: August 27, 2013, 02:13:52 PM »
Hello,

I completed all the puzzles on all the levels of a game called CrossMe Color. I then backed up the app using both AirDroid (to my PC) and My Backup Pro (online). It's a long story, but I had to do a factory reset on my N7. I restored the CrossMe Color app from both AirDroid and My Backup Pro -- and in both cases the app was blank, no data was saved. So all those weeks of effort to complete the puzzles is lost.

If this is how backups work, then what's the point of backing up any apps? -- since all apps are held in one's account in the Play Store and Amazon Appstore anyhow. Or, did I simply do something wrong during the backup process?

Nexus 7 Help / question on donate apps
« on: August 05, 2013, 12:23:25 AM »
Hi,

I have a question (or two) about "donate" apps.

I purchased a donate app as a thank you for the work a developer has done on his free app.  Can I now uninstall this app? I assume this app behaves like any other app, except it doesn't do anything other than take your money.

Cheers,

Hi, all --

Just installed the 4.3 update --

And, unfortunately, it still did not resolve my app folder problem: that being, that once I have a folder created it's damn near impossible to add a new app to said folder. Sometimes, especially after I've just turned on the N7, I can sort of sneak up on the folder with a new app icon, get the blue encircling highlight, and then drop the app icon into the folder. But lately, even this isn't working. And with the new 4.3, it's still an issue.

Someone who has access to the Google Android devs, is this still listed as a known issue?

I'm getting ready to install Nova launcher, and I understand with any of the launchers, this app folder problem isn't an issue.

Cheers,

Nexus 7 Help / Re: app groups
« on: May 20, 2013, 12:23:39 PM »
JayJ,

Unfortunately groups in the stock launcher don't have those 3 dots; too bad because that would have been an easy solution.

Thanks.
