Nexus 7 Help / Re: app groups
« on: May 20, 2013, 12:19:13 AM »
Thanks, engineer,

I appreciate your response.

Has anyone heard if this is a reported issue on stock Android 4.2.2?

Cheers,

Nexus 7 Help / app groups
« on: May 19, 2013, 05:37:27 PM »
Hello -

I'm having a problem adding new apps to existing groups. When I move an app close to a group, the group jumps away from the single app, almost as if they were magnets with the same polarity. I try it quickly, slowly, I open and close the group -- but just can't get the app to merge with the existing group. Sometimes this happens when I'm trying to create a new group by merging two single apps, too.

I believe this started happening with the 4.2.2 update.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions?

Cheers,
-martyh

Thanks, strollin, I'll check into this Dell mouse; a quick scan of the link -- looks pretty good. Thanks again.

Hi...

I can't believe how difficult it is to find a decent, working bluetooth mouse.

I have the Targus Bluetooth Comfort Laser Mouse and it worked great for a few months. Now it pairs and works when it feels like it, not necessarily when I need it!

Then I did a bit of online searching and bought a Kensington Sure Track bluetooth mouse. Took a bit to get it paired (driver had to be installed) but then it worked perfectly -- the first time. The second time I tried to use it, it simply would not pair. The red light on the top of the mouse blinked forever and that was it. In the box it went and shipped back to Amazon for an instant refund.

So, anyone have a tried and true bluetooth mouse that they can recommend? One that works out of the box, and continues to work every time they use it? Need not just a brand name but a model number as well, since most manufacturers have multiple models.

How difficult is it to make a bloody bluetooth mouse?

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Precautions when connected to unprotected wifi
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:37:15 PM »
I second birdastrompgman; I too use Droid Sheepguard.

I also *never* do any banking/credit card access/essentially anything having to do with money and related accounts on public wifi -- ever.

I check my gmail, my gReader Pro app, FB and twitter, and that typically can keep me busy for quite some time. I'll also do web searches and such.

Basically, just be smart when on public wifi.

On a side note: I live one house from the corner, and across that street is a park. There are cars parked along that park all the time, often late at night. About a year ago, the police busted a car with a couple in it, using a laptop and accessing an unsecured wireless network in the neighborhood. I'm guessing they stopped to check out why the people were sitting in their car and discovered said laptop and what they were doing. I don't know whose network they were accessing, but these people are out there, doing their nefarious deeds!

Yes, disabling under "Settings" would be the way to go with a non-rooted N7. This is what I did with a number of other apps as well: Android keyboard, default email app, Korean keyboard, and Pinyin. I didn't want to uninstall any default/system app for fear of screwing something up for a future OTA update.

Nexus 7 Apps / Re: Gmail app question

bjs229 --

I was hoping you would help me out with a PrinterShare test:

I assume you have an Amazon account: Can you login to your Amazon acct and, using PrinterShare on your N7,  try to print an invoice from a previous order? You don't actually have to print it, just see if the invoice comes up on the print-ready screen.

When I'm in my Amazon acct, using the Epson iPrint app, and I try to print an invoice -- even though I'm logged in under my own acct, the screen that comes up for printing is the Amazon login screen. It seems that iPrint won't print a secure page, even though the acct is logged in.

Thanks; appreciate your help with this -- as your time permits.

Like me or not. I gave you a solution.

I still like you, bjs229 -- honest!

You mention "printer share" but I was unable to find an app by that actual name. Are you referring to "PrinterShare" by Mobile Dynamix?  Just wanted to be sure we're talking about the same app.

Like I said, I'm trying to avoid the $12.95 cost....

But speaking of being unable to print from Gmail, I tried to print a page from within my Amazon account using both Google Cloud Print and the Epson iPrint app. Both had the same results: the actual Amazon page did *not* print; what did print was the Amazon login page. Very weird indeed.

loociddreemr -

In the gmail app there is no share option at all, no ability to share the email with a print app; and, there is no print option either.

JayJ,

I have the Epson iPrint app, but it doesn't work within the gmail app. It's pretty weird: I'm logged into the gmail app, looking at the email I want to print, and when I use iPrint, what comes up on the screen to print is the gmail logon screen, and not the open email I'm looking at.

I decided to try using gmail through the Chrome browser (instead of the gmail app) -- and it worked -- I was able to print the open email -- but it only worked once. The next time I tried it, all I got once again was the gmail logon screen. Very weird. Same thing happened trying to print out a MS hotmail/outlook email through the Chrome browser: all I got in the print window was the mail logon screen.

I don't need to print emails that often, so I'm not about to invest in the $10 or $15 printer apps, but it sure would be nice to print a page now and then.

Nexus 7 Apps / Open Signal app
« on: February 20, 2013, 05:11:21 PM »
Hello,

Is anyone using the Open Signal app (OpenSignal, Inc.) on the Nexus 7, and if so, with what kind of success?

I've read the app reviews and whereas most users love the app, there are a lot of others with problems: crashes, freezes (to the point where the cell's battery has to be pulled), etc. I only found one user who tried it on an N7 and the app didn't work.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: 4.2.2 issue?
« on: February 17, 2013, 02:31:57 PM »
Thanks, all, for feedback and suggestions.

I rebooted; no change. I deleted the network from N7, reentered pw key; no change. I installed Wireless Network Manager -- fixed networks, etc.; no change. The only thing different over the past week, before the 4.2.2 update: I added a network wifi extender. I simply unplugged it, reran a fix using the Wifi Manager app, and --
the wireless on the N7 is now more stable; it still drops occasionally but seems to reconnect on its own without my needing to manually deal with it. I'm going to reconnect the Wifi extender again, but with a unique SSID and see if that makes any difference. If not, I'll probably just return the extender. Too bad, too, because it's very cool.

Thanks again.

Nexus 7 General Discussion / 4.2.2 issue?
« on: February 16, 2013, 07:41:09 PM »
Hi, all -

Since the 4.2.2 update yesterday, I'm spending all my bloody time on the N7 trying to regain my wireless connection. WiFi is on and off like a dripping faucet!

I just ran a test: when the N7 lost connection (again) I checked our two Kindles setting right next to me -- both had WiFi!

Anyone else experiencing this? If not, any suggestions?

Nexus 7 Apps / Gmail app question
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:06:33 AM »
Hi, all -

I've been using the Gmail app since day one on the N7 --

But just today I realized that I can't print an email (I have Epson's iprint app for a wireless printer) -- I couldn't find any print option anywhere in Gmail.

Also, there was no "share" option, either. (Print is usually included in the share list.)

Am I just missing something somewhere in the Gmail app?

Thanks for any responses.
Cheers,

Nexus 7 Help / Re: unable to sync Google Chrome
« on: February 08, 2013, 08:37:21 PM »
JayJ --

No, I'm not using Chrome Beta, but just Chrome for Android.

Funny thing: After I posted my help request yesterday.... I don't recall what I was doing on the N7, but a pop-up appeared informing me that a number of apps (it listed Chrome as well as Dropbox, and probably one or two others) needed to be synced -- so I clicked on the button, and all was well with the world.

I left my post up hoping that someone would suggest something that would get me to the same point as that pop-up. Still don't know what caused it, but the Android OS must have realized my problem.

If only the N7 was always so intuitive!
Cheers,
- martyh
