??? I have no problems adjusting the Kindle app's screen brightness with Screen Dim  or the Settings>Display>Brightness options.

Go into the change font part of the kindle app and the brightness setting is at the bottom. It does need auto brightness to be off though.

Well I guess it overrides whatever screen brightness you have on for the rest of the system. Still bad.  Its just a bad app.

I have a few books but only use this app. I don't know good from bad because this is adequate for my needs.

And when you close the app, the brightness returns to what was set before.
