WiFi Icon, sometimes gray, and sometimes blue, why?
« on: October 04, 2012, 05:21:14 AM »
Hi,

My icon on the top right of my screen that shows the strength of the WiFi signal is sometimes gray and the WiFi doesn't always seem to work when it is gray. Although sometimes it does. When it is blue, it always works brilliantly.

At first I was turning the Nexus off and then back on to make it turn blue, but then I realized I could go into the settings and turn the WiFi off and then back on to make it blue again.

Only now, it seems to be staying gray, and the WiFi doesn't seem to be working. I've even tried recycling the power on it and it still stays gray.

Anyone know what is going on with this?

I never turn my Nexus off, it is on 24/7. Is this a bad idea?

I think grey is when a WiFi network is available but not connected.

Blue is when it is connected.

Interesting question.  I hadn't previously noticed the color.  A quick web search showed a lot of theories, but nothing definite.  One said color depends on whether the connection is secure.  Another said one color is idle and the other is active.  I didn't look much more because it doesn't make much difference to me.
I used to be crazy until I found out that insane pays more.

Where am I?  What am I doing in this handbasket?

I just turned my wi-fi off, and the icon turned grey. It stayed grey while connecting.  once connected, it turned blue.

Back when the colour thing started which was in Gingerbread the green Wi-Fi icon was to signify that the phone was connected to Google sync.
I've had occasions when I am connected to my Home network but cannot get on the internet, Google Play read emails Tec, the colour of the Wi-Fi icon in this case has been Grey. This would suggest what I said above.

I've noticed that a lot using foxfi.   I know on my tablet it seems to be grey icon is connected to the network my RAZR Maxx is emitting, and blue icon is when my tablet is receiving both the connection to my phones network as well as its internet connection.
