Wow! 64G of storage for my Nexus 7!
« on: October 04, 2012, 03:07:07 PM »
I just tried a 64G microSDxc card plugged into an adapter, plugged into a USB card reader and hooked up to my N7 via an OTG cable.  With the Nexus Media Importer app loaded, I was able to access pictures, music and video stored on the card.  I've used some smaller cards and USB thumb drives with The Media Importer app before but the fact that it can access this 64G card amazes me.

I tried this 64G card in the microSD card slot of my Droid Razr phone and my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and neither could read it.

Yeah, strollin, Nexus media importer is a fantastic find. to be able to access flash drives, media hubs, portablw hard drives, etc.....and all without having to root the device. Too bad that exporting media FROMthe tablet to the flash drive, is not a capability, as of yet.

But, all in all, an incredible app. I have a drawer full of various flash drives loaded with music and movies. and carrying a few of them around in my pocket is truely entertainment on the go.

I was using a 320 gig drive on a powered hub. A little bulky but....

My amazement is not so much that Nexus Media Importer works with a USB device but that it can handle a 64G micro SDxc card.  Many other Android devices are only able to handle a 32G card max.

Opportunity for a new N7 Accessory

"Necessity is the mother of invention"

N7 shortcoming invites someone to produce a small plug-in OTG adapter that support a micro-card.  Memory expansion without the dongle!

The adapter I mentioned in my post is one that came with the microSD card which adapts the microSD card to an SD card.  Not sure if you are asking about that or the OTG cable which I ordered from a Hong Kong vendor on Ebay.

I can finally use those sd cards I got on the cheap. I already have around 150 gigs of stuff I carry around with my 16gb Nexus 7.
