Android mini-PC
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:21:33 PM »
Does anyone have experience with the various mini-pc's out there that operate on Android?  I thought this would be a nifty gadget to have around. With the possibility of the nexus 7 not utilizing miracast, another device that can sync all your media and plug directly into any TV sounds like an essential for my geek arsenal. Being smaller than a candy bar and just as powerful as any other android device are big selling points.

Thoughts? Advice? Reviews?

I think what loociddreemr is referring to is something like this...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANDRIOD-MINI-PC-1GB-DDR3-4GB-1-5Ghz-Cortex-A8-Android-4-0-TV-BOX-FREE-GIFT-/321013473993

I've been thinking about it myself to be honest, the price of these are fantastic but how they perform I cannot comment so I too would be interested in feedback.

Yeah Jay, that's what I'm referring to. You can pick these up for as little as $40. The ones with better specs only about $70. My kids are always begging to play the games on my N7.  This might be an affordable alternative for a gaming console.

That looks really cool. Almost worth just buying to mess with.

Not expecting delivery until just before Christmas, since it is coming from China via US Customs. Ryan ordered earlier & should get his first.

Received mine two days ago. Was able to successfully root. Haven't had much time to play with it, but seems cool so far. I have streamed a video sample from a movie on a NAS over Wi-Fi with no issues.

Congratz!  Looking forward to playing with mine.  Any tips/links to rooting instructions or kits?  Are you planning to flash a Finless ROM?

I've been thinking about flashing a finless ROM. There isn't one specific for the ug007 yet, but the one for the MX1 supposedly works. I'm not flashing anything until I find a copy if the original firmware. The rooting was kind of a pain, yet simple. There's a utility that installs the driver, then a utility that flashes root. The root utility reboots the device the times, and every time you have to go back into the settings on the device and tell the USB host to connect to PC. If you have any problems, I can walk you through it, send you links, etc...

Can the UG007 run vanilla MK808 firmware?  If so, here's a link to the MK808 firmware.
