Streaming my n7 onto my tv

(1/3) > >>

ivan:
This is a two point question. But first my setup: N7, connected to a wireless router, hardwired to a patriot box office (PBO) media player, which is connected to my TV. My windows 7 computer has a shared media network folder and using the PBO , I am able to stream movies to my TV.

1. Am I able to share media from my N7 in the same way that I can network share a folder on my windows machine?

2. Now that I got my snes emulator working, I'd like to play it on my TV. Is it possible to setup a live video and audio feed to my media player? Since the N7 doesn't have HDMI out, I figure streaming is the only way.

Thanks!

There's probably an app that will allow the sharing, but its not a native function. As far as streaming video out, there's no current software that allows this functionality. There's rumored hardware, another box that you need to buy, but its not readily available yet.

My understanding is that our Nexus 7 can send, control, and receive wireless and network streams.  I am currently working on this on my own N7 for the first time so I am certainly not experienced.

First you have the PC or N7 with a media server / connection of some type installed, let's say XBMC or Plex

Next you can have the N7 control that media server - see for instance    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.android.remote&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm9yZy54Ym1jLmFuZHJvaWQucmVtb3RlIl0.

Next you can have the N7 receive the media as a client IF your N7 can see the server's stream and connect to it.  see for example  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wbGV4YXBwLmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..

In short, the ability you are looking for is dependent on the apps you select.  There are a crapload of them so have fun and think positive.

Good ideas at work here. Now we just have to figure it how to stream a mirror of the Nexus display.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to solve.my first question. I downloaded twonky beam, setup my n7 as a media server and accessed my media files on my media player via upnp.

Now to get my android screen on the TV.... I didn't see any obvious apps to do that. Anymore suggestions? I've seen the physical HDMI dongle and adapter from amazon, but its 80 bucks and apparently doesn't work that well. I feel like any network connected media player should be able to do it.

I can hook up my laptop to the TV's HDMI, is there anyway to stream my androids video to my laptop?

Would something like this work for connecting the n7 via HDMI:

Do the n7s have mhl technology?
Or how about:
http://www.amazon.com/SlimPort%C2%AE-SP1002-Connect-connector-Supports/dp/B009UZBLSG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_2  Looks like the nexus 4 works with this, how about the 7?

Also, it looks like 4.2 gave us miracast, but from what I read the N7 doesn't support it.

Ah and for a point of interest check this out: http://esrlabs.com/android-transporter-for-the-nexus-7-and-the-raspberry-pi/
I can't do it, not rooted, but it might be of interest to some.

Thanks!
