that doesn't really do it.

Example - Sunny this weekend - my nexus is totally and utterly unusable in the sun, yet other devices I can still read the screen.

I am not sure why this is, but surely there is a decent product that makes it useable.

I want to read using kindle app on holiday and at the moment that is never going to happen.

Is there any product that makes screen useable on sunny days?  I mean it is useless outside at the moment, even when it isn't sunny!

I use the default email client to access 5 mailboxes.   It no says unable to connect to server for the hotmail ones (3 of them).  All the passwords are correct and I can still contact them from other devices without having to change any settings.

Any ideas?

Anyone seen replacement screens at reasonable price yet?

5
I think I found the issue. Some Google apps were set to notify all sorts of stuff which I guess was waking up WiFi,GPS etc all the time.

OK,, now I seem to have  a the main drain being Media Server. I only use Kindle, Skype, a live wallpaper, Chrome and very occassionaly some Google Apps and I have 2 games installed.

I have nothing I didn't have on my other 3 Nexus yet I never had this before, only difference is they APS are updated and a game is different, they may be configured differently, but don't see why.

I have 1 more new app called News Republic so have turned notifications off to see what that does.

well Wifi is now set to go off (and it does) when the screen sleeps....but last night, again reading Kindle.....battery high - wake up and Nexus is totally dead.

8
That sounds like a great suggestion - thanks Matt.  Have changed and see how I get on.

Strangely I never changed that setting before on any of my other 3 Nexus and never had this battery drain issue   ???

9
OK....Nexus has been charging for hours now and is still only at 70 odd %.  I have been using it, but not loads and the Android OS is still way ahead of the screen for battery usage.....

Surely that is not right?

Thanks.  happened again last night.  I was reading a book on kindle...at ~90% battery and woke up and had to put on charge.

The battery showed as:

Android OS 44%
Screen 19%
Google Devices 13%
Skype 7%

The graph has a solid line next to WIFI too...not sure what that means.

I have never seen the battery on any of my other devices have anything other than the screen at the top.  I "think" I have configured this identically....

Am I allowed to post screen shots of the battery usage and graphs on here?

Not sure if this is anything, probably not....

One of the only Apps I have running in the background all the time is Skype.  Now I notice the latest version of Skype is different from what I had on previous Nexus....in fact I can't rotate from landscape mode, which is really annoying.

Wondering whether this app has some pother differences now that could drain battery...?

Thanks for the replies.

Correction - it is actually my 4th Nexus!! I forgot about the first one that had screen lift and then screen died!!

Anyway - bluetooth definitely was not on.  I think the Kindle sleep disable is a good lead to follow up....however I left Kindle on last night (I only read in bed!) and it did not have the same result.

Battery shows screen as highest as expected, but Android OS and Android System as quite high - also Google "services" which I don't recall having had before.

Having said all that the battery did not drain anywhere near as much over night last night.....

I got my 3rd Nexus yesterday (2 cracked screens).

The new one is 32gb rather than 16. Otherwise I assume they are the same.

Fully charged and then updated Android and re installed my apps (in fact a lot less apps, but nothing new).

I then put in my case - which has a way to put Nexus into sleep mode when you close I believe.

Anyway - I read a Kindle book for a bit last night and did nothing else.  This morning the charge which was between 90-100% was so low I had to reconnect charger.

Any idea why this might be.  Logged at battery and was only screen using much and the nexus goes into sleep mode very quickly (screen goes dark).

I have 2 x Nexus 16GB with cracked screens.  I have searched and searched and all I can find are screens and digitizers that cost almost as much as replacement units and nothing from ASUS except very expensive repairs.

So, I give up.  By the time a cheaper option is out we will have more of a price drop, so seems pointless waiting.

My only choice seem to be have nothing or buy a new unit, whether that is another Nexus or alternative device I am not sure.

But I would like some money back from my broken units and seems you can get £40 on ebay for cracked screen units.  But mine are not rooted and I am concerned I can't wip them safely and completely if not rooted.

Can I do this and if so how and is there a way to be sure it has worked?
Thanks

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: In-car Navigation
« on: February 19, 2013, 06:42:49 AM »
The last time I tried navfree the addresses would only resolve to the nearest major intersection, which might be a half mile away. I'll try it again, maybe that was fixed. Thx. Seems like all the nav apps assumed my car was facing the other way and didn't like my route changes.
Definately works better than that now.  It takes me to the address (you may want to download the postcodes/zipcodes as they don't come as standard).

It does sometimes take you long ways around and favours major roads, but it works ok for what I want.
