Nexus 7 Help / Re: Possible to disable autorotate for home screen only?

Thanks. I tried the rotation app but it seemed to make the screen laggy. Guess I will just learn to live with it :-)

Nexus 7 Help / Possible to disable autorotate for home screen only?

OK, I am the ONE weird guy who likes the home screen in portrait mode only. Is there any way to set this, but still allow other screens to rotate. My N7 is NOT rooted.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Cant connect to Laptop running Ubuntu
« on: November 04, 2012, 07:52:49 AM »
Yes, there are several, some easier than others. I find by far the simplest method is to use ftp. You must have a WiFi network with both the nexus seven and your Ubuntu PC logged on. Download a free package from the Play Store to your nexus 7 called ftpserver. Then download gftp from the Ubuntu software centre to your Ubuntu PC.
On the nexus seven, start ftpserver. You will see a simple screen with a start button. Turn it on. You will then see the screen update with the network address, something like 192.168.0.10, and the port number, something like 2221. The usernsme and password will also be displayed. Start FTP on the Ubuntu machine and enter those parameters. You will now be connected and be able to transfer files backward and forward between the two machines using the browser panes built in to gftp. Let me know if you need screenshots to make it clearer.

Little strange as I run QOpro with no problems, though editing tables in Word docs screws them up.

Rounded and fair comments. There are a couple of work arounds for getting flash working, but in general I agree not having it OTB is a nuisance.
Can the screen issue be resolved by setting a fixed brightness level rather than the default 'auto'?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Chrome browser

The Google Play version of Adobe flash is not compatible with JellyBean,  Adobe announced that the updated Flash for ICS would be the last support for the Android OS.
However as BFM said there is a modded version of Adobe flash available that can be sideloaded onto our N7's, it's easy to do and can be done without the need for root access.
I use a 3rd party browser called xScope and upon installation and application launch you are prompted to download and sideload the modded version of the flash player.

Easy as pie.

OK, that's a new term for me. What does it mean to "sideload?" Thanks in advance!
Just means loaded from an 'unofficial' site rather than from Google Play.

Am I right in thinking the Transformers film that comes free with the Nexus 7 is actually streamed when I watch it' or is it stored locally?

I agree, that instruction is hard to figure. I DO know that Chrome for the desktop has its own version of Flash built in, but I don't see how one could install that on the Android platform.

I have totally successfully side loaded Flash and BBC iPlayer App. Both work just fine. Simply downloaded them, went to Download and tapped on the files.

I think it is meant to simulate leather so has a slightly brown look. Sure pink will be available soon :-)

One week in and totally happy with 8GB. I like this little guy so much my laptop is just gathering dust now. I will happily pony up for an upgrade with rear camera and SD if it ever comes.
Installed Skype, Google listen, king soft office, OIFile manager, flash, Firefox beta, TED, and most delightful of all, Chargebar.
 Love this thing.

Two black rings mean they are stereo as opposed to mono headphones. They can be a bit tricky  to push in all the way but if you are sure they are fully home and still don't work your device is faulty.

Been using it for a day now. Love it love it love it. Predictive text keyboard is best I have ever used. More to follow.
