Better and less expensive?  Sign me up.  I'll hand my current over to my daughter.

Nexus 7 Wallpapers and Themes / Re: Will it fit the Nexus

One problem is how Jellybean forces that stupid crop grid on photos from the Gallery, so you often can't use a photo's full size or resolution.  I've found that an app called Image 2 Wallpaper let's you resize and do custom crops so that you can much more easily use photos larger than the usual size and resolution.  Bonus: no silly resizing crop lines.   8)

Nexus 7 Accessories / Re: USB Card Reader

No love for compact flash cards, though.   :(

I'll dig one up or find a regular USB connector reader to use with my OTG cable.

While I generally like it for its rather simplicity and speed, the stock Chrome isn't helpful in this regard, as we know.  I've tried Bookmark Sort & Backup a couple of times to keep things sorted, but the app is failing to find the bookmarks in the first place.

I also tried CMarks Lite, and while it seems to sort them when they first load, it doesn't "export" them back for Chrome to grab them.  Does Chrome have to be force-quitted and restarted to call them up in order?

I'm running Chrome (for now) on a stock JB, unlocked and rooted.  Any ideas why BSB wouldn't properly find the bookmarks?  I rather not start trying to sync larger numbers (maybe 100+?) of bookmarks across laptops and pcs, I just want to run a dozen or so of my favorite links that I hit while bumming around with my Nex7.   Thanks!

I saw, "older than dirt," and thought I'd chime in late.  I'm another "AARP-eligible" guy as of this year.  :-)

I'm with you and others regarding Apple.  I messed with it a few times over the years, and while it generally worked okay, the general ecosystem attitudes and need to go all-in kind of turns me off.  I came in to computers more seriously a little later than some, around the Win 2.1 to Win 3.0 days.  I've run a half dozen or so Linux distros over the years, so I've appreciated the open source movement.  Android is really filling that niche for me these days.   I've hacked a number of cell phones over time as well.  Having a device's seller hamstring their product rather irks me.

I'm new here myself, so I'm still in the read-a-lot-and-search phase.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Issues Using Gallery Images as Wallpaper
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:10:44 PM »
Yeah, that's the thing, they're already 1280x800 wallpapers.  Maybe a larger size/higher res so that when it shrinks, it leaves a good image?  Ugh...  I'll have to putz more.

Nexus 7 Help / Issues Using Gallery Images as Wallpaper
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:56:22 AM »
Having an issue with using wallpapers from the Gallery.  When wanting to load a wallpaper, the image comes up for preview, filling the screen, but with blue grid lines that limit the size of the image as it's going to be displayed.  The grid lines can be stretched a bit, but it still doesn't cover the entire image.  This forces only a portion of the image to be used, usually in pretty poor resolution.  How would one get rid of the blue grid, or simply get the Nex7 to accept an image in its full size?

Thanks

Wanted to check something before I root my Nex.  I searched around the forum and didn't see my question addressed.  If I overlooked it, my apologies.

I'm asking to make sure I have details covered in case a hiccup occurs with the rooting process.  I'd rather ask now beforehand than if something goes wrong.

The rooting how-to guide mentions if something goes wrong, to manually load the drivers (No problem here, nothing I haven't done before.) and look for them in \data\drivers of the main program directory.  However, 1.5.3 has five other directories under the \drivers subdirectory.

Driver_Pics
Driver_Utilities
PDAnet_Drivers
RAW_Drivers
Samsung_Drivers

In the RAW_Drivers subdirectory, there are other directories, one of which is Google_Drivers.  I'm running off of a netbook, so the driver set would be in the i386 folder in the Google_Drivers directory.  There are three .dll files in the i386 folder.

I'd like to confirm which driver I'd be looking for.  Like I said, I'd rather ask now than later when I'm panicking about bricking something.

Thanks, all.

Hey, gang, just signed on.  I've been familiar with Android after putzing with my wife's Incredible and now Razr Maxx, and dove in with a 16gb Nex7.  Looking forward to eventually rooting and tweaking and getting up to speed.  I've worked with earlier Motorola and LG phones, getting into their systems and brew files, but the droids look like a lot of fun.
