Day three of storm duty for the local power utility.  Probably another five to go.  Bueno.

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: How much will you pay for a Nexus 10?

I agree with Prime, in that, the $299 price will make it sell like gangbusters.  Much more than that, I think the iPad market would be encroached, and I think sales would dip dramatically.

I work for the power company here in Connecticut.  I have been at work since yesterday morning, and plan to stay another 18 hours.  My staff is working 18 and 24 hour shifts until this thing blows over.  This storm actually looks like it may hit us pretty hard.

Stay safe

First off, seldom to the forum.  It's great to have you here.  As for your issue, I agree that it is probably the location setting, so long as the WiFi is hooked up from your laptop.

Nexus 7 Android OS (Jelly Bean) / Re: 4.1.1 V 4.1.2

Can you use Wigs to flash stock, reroot, then flash new?  That usually works, especially because the boot loader typically stays unlocked.

4.1.2 was a minor update, most notably adding the ability for the Nexus 7 to add a landscape launcher.  This will now support home screen rotation.  The other changes are behind the scenes, mainly related to power management, but will not be plainly obvious.

Nexus 7 Vs. The Competition / Re: IPad mini comparisons?
« on: October 25, 2012, 04:01:58 PM »
I think the iPad mini is partially getting shot down more than the new iPhone because it's a new device.  Like a lot of Apple products, the general populous will buy them regardless of design and function.  Take the 4s, essentially the same exact device as the 4, save for one widget named siri.  The iPad is basically the same thing, new device label, same guts.  Now look at the mini.  Apple is trying to push its way into an already well established market, with quality competition, and devices people can base opinion on.  They also are banking on their customers Ade foolish enough to buy without question as to quality or function, just because it has worked in the past.  Personally, I think the company is beginning to make a large mistake in assuming people will buy blindly.  I'm glad to see that it appears to be false.

I hate to say it, but I would give the Factory Reset a shot.  If that doesn't work, I would probably give a call to Google, and get it swapped out.  From my understanding, they have been good about that.

Nexus 7 ROM Discussions / Baked Grouper Blackbean
« on: October 25, 2012, 12:04:36 PM »
This ROM was the first one I flashed to the N7, and it was OK, nothing flashy, but pretty stable.

This one offered inverted Google Apps, which most are nowadays, but it came thorugh a little problematic.  The system kept getting confused, and resorting to requesting for permissions constantly, which was the eventual reason for its demise on my device.

As most ROMs with an AOSP base, it offers a fair amount of customization ability, including the addition of Lockscreen weather, calendar, and color change.  Although I am not interested, it also offers AOKP toggles, which some think are good.  The speed of the ROM was good, along with the transitions from app to app being buttery smooth, something we've grown to expect with the device, in general.

Battery life seemed largely unaffected with the change, or if it was, I did not notice a marked change, better or worse.  That said, since the battery life, for my device, is more than sufficient, I am not too concerned with it.  The ROM did give the ability to undervoltage the device if you wish, but I usually stay away from it, unless I am very comfortable with the stability and quality of the ROM, in general.

IMHO, I would probably say that the ROM falls under the "meh" category.

Nexus 7 ROM Discussions / Cookies and Cream 1.3.0
« on: October 25, 2012, 11:51:50 AM »
This ROM is based on the AOSP platform and has been my go to ROM for the Nexus 7 thus far.  There has been minimal issues with this ROM, or more specifically, this iteration of the ROM.  Every issue I have had, mostly with Trebuchet, has been addressed and/or rectified OTA, and the Dev has been very curteous and helpful.

As far as extras, the ROM comes with a multitude of Apps, including Root, Busybox, Trickster MOD, Apex Launcher, and a few more that I am sure I missed.  The apps have been useful, with the exception of Trickster MOD, which has hung up a couple of times.

The kernal that was included with the ROM is the Bricked (not fond of the name).  The name is the only thing about the kernel that I am not fond of.  It has operated quickly and problem free since day 1.

Overall, this ROM has been good, stable, customizable, and clean from the start, and as far as ROMs go, Iwould definitely reccomend it, especially for a newbie flasher, as this one installs very easily.

Sorry for the formatting issue.  Just to make things easier for all, I have attached a .docx of the earlier posted list of ROMs.  Included with the document, are the various hyperlinks to mainly XDA Devlopers, which the ROMs reside in.  Again, as I flash each ROM, I will create sub lists with a quick review/opinion, such that someone can benefit from my mistakes, hopefully.  SHould any of the links not work, or I botched something up, please PM me, and I will fix it as quickly as I can.

My apologies, I should have elaborated.  JJ is accurate regarding the apps, and once you get the repsective reader and other media apps, the books and movies you had bought should show up once you log in.

Agreed, you shouldn't have to.

Were you doing anything different this itme around?  Using a new app, or possibly getting the picture that could be locked, or something?  My thought is to rule out the small, easy to miss stuff.
