Nexus 7 Help / Re: New owner, couple nitpicks about the Jellybean
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:01:08 PM »
People on forums contribute in their own way. It's undo act that things your nit picking about are not on iOS so that's why it sounds like your completely unhappy with your device. Your unhappy with a more capable device.

And the fact that people throw in a joke here and there isn't a bad thing. This forum has a very friendly feel to it and I'm sorry that you don't see the appeal in that. The more contributions you get in a forum the more attention it gets which could lead to the answer of your questions through more conversation.

I just don't think it's funny to tell someone you know the answer they're looking for but won't tell just to lord it over them and bicker about their opinion from an earlier post.

I agree with you about it being a more capable device thats why I bought it. Trouble is it needs an app to add this basic undo function from DROID X & iDevices. Show me the app!  IDC if it has a notification.

I had a long and eloquent, multiquote reply but accidentally erased it with a greasy thumb (damn u Ninja Chips!) Thanks to Nexus 7 not having undo like my DROID X has had for years it is gone forever.  I'm not even going to bother recreating it, so straight to the TL:DR?

I know people have helped and I'm not discounting them. I'm talking to the last few people who posted before that.

@jay sad to see you go,  the troll pic helped so much.

@otherrandomguy Read the 3 replies directed towards me before my last comment.

So what's the app name you guys? It's not the obvious Shake Undo. And hold the useless comments to yourself please. I know its hard to resist the urge to dress up drivel as if it were being clever, but I'm asking you try.

Ah, I was being dense. Just ran thru a bunch of sites on the pc, turned off the wifi, and started hitting the back button. Never had a reason to do that before. Don't know why I bothered.

So what exactly do you want, to store web sites for viewing when out of wifi range, or just faster page loads of previously viewed content? I'm missing the point. Illuminate.

I just want efficiency. If youre going to hit the back button of course you just want to go where you were previously. Theres absoluletly no reason to refetch it from the web by default. If you need a more current version of the page you can simply hit refresh.

I don't think any stream will continue to work when wifi drops.

Of course not lol... I think maybe you were mixing up 2 different issues I brought up. The only time I mentioned dropped wifi is when you hit the back button. Doesnt mean I was referring to watching a video stream. Hitting the back button should show the cached copy of the page just like it does on my pc, not forcing a refresh and then clearing the entire page of content to display a network error.

Back button forcing a reload and totaly wiping the current page if you happen to be out of wifi range is a major bug imo and no faster browser is going to fix this, but thanks. I will def check it out if I get tired of Sleipnir.

if iI remember there was a bug with puffin that allowed you to back out or use another tab and YouTube would play in the  background.

Thats not a bug thats a feature! ;P Puffin flash quality isnt as good as Sleipnir. Also the gesture system is pretty amazing. Did I mention the Japanese have been using it for years? Havent checked out lightning yet.

I hear ya. It may be because tablets have different ram and apps have to work on 256mb as well as 1g. Not much ram to multitask after operating system overhead + market services.

When using chrome, I long press a link to open a page in a new tab. When I go between tabs they don't reload. And the tabs I haven't opened yet load in the background.

When I go back in Internet Explorer on the winbox, it redownloads the pages as well. Maybe there needs to be a cache buffer setting.
Maybe there's app that will let you whitelist some apps to be considered fully active and focused even when they are in background? This would also be useful for listening to youtube videos without having to actually watch the video in full focus. Then I could uninstall PXSTAR which is kinda crap code, but works somewhat. (you can't even paste a URL there you have to search the video again)

Nothing personal but you seem very difficult to please. I understand we all want what we want. Do you not believe in paying for an app when the developers have done a good job? Why is a trial a turnoff?  That's what a trial is.. if it's good buy it. If you don't like the app that's a different ballgame.

Nothing personal, but your fluff post doesnt contribute to the OP in any way.

I've since uninstalled Puffin since its flash trial was inferior to Sleipnir's non-trial flash. I am not above using trials, I love this Swiftkey 3 trial so far and will likely buy it when it is over. (although still looking a way to add swype functions)

I am still having the same problem from the OP so if anyone knows how to make cache work for web browsing I'd love to hear it. I shouldnt be forced to reload a page when hitting the back button. Static pages shouldnt try to refresh when switching focus back to that browser or back to that tab.

A slightly related issue that would speed up overall efficiency of my browsing if fixed is tabs not continuing to load when not in focus or after switching to another active browser. For devices that arent so snappy at fetching web data it is nice to be able to request a page then switch to another tab or browser and work on something else while it continues in the background.

I don't think you want it. Sounds like ike it actually makes you aware it's running. Worse than an Iron Maiden.

It probably has a way to turn that off if its half decent code. Have at it. It will run always so no.need to know about it.

I've since relaxed a bit about the notification area.  I now have 3 that always run and no useless requests about selecting a kb anymore. (thankyou SwiftKey flow beta!)

There's an app for that shaking undo. There's even a nice notification icon that let's you know its always running.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Connect Nexus 7 to 3G dongle?
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:56:56 PM »
Any way to add a 4g usb without root? I am also open to the idea of buying a broken n7-3g and transplanting the 3g components as I'm already comfortable with this type of work. I wouldnt do it unless someone else has done this mod before though. It would probaly be technically illegal though considering the FCC laws and them wanting to track cellular users though.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Nexus 7 help - screen flickers
« on: February 02, 2013, 09:50:51 PM »
Try the app Screen Filter. When mine flickers I just adjust it there and it goes away. I use either 90% or 75% unless the lignts are off then more like 25%. This is all with stock brightness at lowest setting.
