Back about 6 months ago a lot of Verizon customers were a little miffed that the Nexus 7 wasn't available on their network.  Despite the 4G version of the tablet having the appropriate radios, the company refused to activate saying that it had not yet been certified on big red's network.  Well starting a few days ago, word has leaked out, via venerable website Droid-Life that the Nexus 7 had FINALLY worked its way through the certification process and that we'd soon see it available.   Up above you can see a picture of the Verizon version of the Nexus 7 complete with red Verizon logo and 'Verizon 4G LTE Certified' stamped right on the box.   While there's been no official announcement from the company yet, leaked docs suggest you can pick one up starting the 13th of February....just a few days away.   So...who's getting one?  Let us hear in the comments.

If you've ever wanted to scoop up an official Nexus 7 accessory such as the Folio, Case or Sleeve but thought the list price was just a smidge high, well this is your chance to make your move.  For a limited time you can get these and other accessories for 25% off in your choice of colors.  We're a big fan of the Folio case ourselves and we might scoop up a nice black sleeve to boot.  With the 25% discount, their starting to run low on inventory (the folio is out of stock for now) so don't dilly dally if you want to take advantage of this sale.  Sleeves are only $22.49 and Cases are only $37.49.  Grab em while they got em folks!

It's back and again at the lowest price ever. The 2012 32GB 7 (manuf refurb) only $119.99 on Ebay Daily Deals today.  This is a great opportunity to pick up what is still one of the best 7 inch tablets out there with a still very potent Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1280 x 800 IPS display for less than half the cost of when it came out.  While it is the 2012 model it's still more than capable to run just about any Android app you throw at it and of course you get the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS as well.  If you already have a 2013 model this is a great cheap backup device or you can get one for your spouse or kids.  Hit the link to grab one at this really low price before they sell out.

The Nexus 7 tablet is an awesome device.  With its Full HD 1920 x 1200 display, always up to date Android OS, fast Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with blazing GPU and stereo speakers, there's only a few areas where we see complaints and most of those tend to be about the lack of expandable memory.  Let's face it, while there's been lots of debate about the reasons for Google to not include a MicroSD slot on their Nexus devices, there's no denying it would be nice to have at times. The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive solves this problem by providing an easy, portable expandable memory solution in a tiny wifi enabled drive that you can carry with you in your bag, pocket or case and that provides a ton of extra memory for your Nexus 7 or any other wifi enabled device to connect to wirelessly.

Here's how it works:  The Wireless Media Drive has its own wifi networking chip so it creates a wifi network that you and up to 7 other mobile devices can all connect to simultaneously.   You can load pictures, documents, even stream movies from it and it has an 8 hour battery life per charge.  As the video below shows you can not only take your favorite catalog of movies or documents along but you can expand the memory by putting up to a 128GB SDcard in giving you a total of 192GB of memory.   That's the equivalent of 6 entire 32GB Nexus 7s in one tiny wifi streaming device.

While the video above shows the Wireless Media Drive being used with a different tablet, it works just as well with your Nexus 7

Now this isn't the first wifi portable battery powered drive we've seen, but it and its little brother, the SanDisk Connect Flash Drive are some of the smallest we've seen.  One trick the Wireless Media Drive can do that most others can't is that it accepts SD and MicroSd cards that can be plugged right in, say from a camera or other device and let you access your content on the go over the wifi network.  The SanDisk Connect Wireless Media Drive shown in the video above comes in 32GB or 64GB versions and there's also a smaller SanDisk Connect Flash Drive shown in the picture above that comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB for a little less cash .  One thing to note is that the flashdrive only has about a 4 hour battery life compared to the big brother's 8 hour and can only take MicroSD cards where its big brother can take full size SD as well.    The 64GB version of the SanDisk Connect Wirelss Media Drive can be found for $99 at Amazon at the link below with the 32GB costing as low as $79.99.   The SanDisk Connect Flashdrive is a little less with the 32GB version coming at $59.99 and a 64GB version at the same $99.

Both give you about a 150ft radius wifi network that multiple devices can connect to simultaneously but of course throughput is affected with multiple devices.  Our pick would be the 64GB version of the Wireless Media Drive.  While a tiny bit larger than the flashdrive, the additional 4 hours of battery life plus ability to take SD cards on the fly make it worth it.    Definitely a cool accessory for those that like to take collections of media on vacation or on the road with their Nexus 7.  We've linked to several of the options on Amazon below.

If you have a broken or malfunctioning Nexus 7 due to a cracked or not working display then you might be interested in an Ebay sale going on right now for a replacement screen and digitizer for only $59.69.   Swapping out a broken screen isn't that difficult and instead of tossing your Nexus 7 away or paying over $100 to have the screen fixed this is a good option if you're handy with some tools.   Here's the listing.  Let us know if you get one and how the replacement goes.

New Feature just added.   From now on you'll have a Facebook Like, Tweet and Google +1 button on the bottom center of the first post of all topics.  Should make it easier for people to share posts and articles they like.   I encourage everyone to do this as it helps get the word out about our forum.

Research film Gartner has released their latest forecast for computer operating systems for the next few years and Google dominates all comers with a full 26% increase over 2013's numbers.  Expected to hit a whopping 1.1 billion devices combined between phones and tablets, Android completely blows away the #2 Microsoft's Windows with 360 million and Apple's combined iOS/OSX numbers of 344 million.   In 2015 Android will hit an astonished 1.25 billion devices sold.  Not only that but Android will hit a total of 2 billion devices installed...that's over 1/4 of the world's population...in early 2015.   "There is no doubt that there is a volume versus value equation, with Android users also purchasing lower-cost devices compared to Apple users," Gartner analyst Annette Zimmerman said in a statement. "Android holds the largest number of installed-base devices, with 1.9 billion in use in 2014, compared with 682 million iOS/Mac OS installed-base devices."

Overall phone still dominate tablets with 1.9 billion phones expected to be shipped in 2014 compared to 263 million tablets (a 47% increase year over year).  Still...with so many Android devices out there is it any wonder that developers have started to turn from iOS to Android as their development target of choice? One surprising
result from this data is how well Windows seems to be holding up despite the onslaught of Android and iOS with the venerable desktop OS still eeking out a 2nd place finish.   With Android starting to introduce tablet/laptop replacement devices and even the first desktops can be long before Android dominates the desktop as well?   Stay tuned...

Site News / ...and we're back! Sorry for the outage folks!
« on: December 31, 2013, 03:23:18 PM »
Our site and millions of others were down for several hours today as a massive server outage this last day of 2013 affected multiple large hosting services today including those hosted by akamai technologies and endurance international, the parent of such companies as Hostgator, Bluehost and many others.   Thankfully our sites are back up.  Sorry for any inconvenience this caused anyone.  Unfortunately this kind of incident is out of our hands.   At least we weren't alone.  Millions of sites were affected today.  Hopefully we don't see something like this again for a long time.  Anyway...Happy New Year everyone!

Site News / Change In 2013 and 2012 Nexus 7 Category Order On Main Index
« on: December 30, 2013, 06:09:59 PM »
I've made a slight change to the Main Forum Index and moved the 2013 model boards to the top followed by the 2012.    I thought this made sense to have the most recent model on top.  Let me know your thoughts if anyone has an issue with this.  I can always change it back if necessary. :)

If you missed the sale last month, you can get the awesome Urge Basics Soundbrick Bluetooth Stereo Speaker for 44% off today..only $34.99.   These usually retail for about 70-80 bucks and pump out tremendous sound through a wireless bluetooth connection to your Nexus 7.   It also has a built-in microphone for speakerphone functionality and comes in various colors including black, white, red, blue and pink.  Has a built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery and compares nicely to the Jambox soundbrick which is 4x as costly.   Now this soundbrick is really great to pair up with your tablet because it let's you stream your entire music collection...or even watch movies and video while enjoying booming stereo sound that can fill an entire room or backyard with great bass that even the great 2013 Nexus 7 speakers lack.  Link below

Well we knew we'd be seeing some outstanding deals after the Christmas holiday and this one is one of the best we've seen so far.   It's a 32GB 2012 Nexus 7 for only $124.99.   New these went for $249.99 so this is 50% off.   It's a manufacturer refurbished unit so it comes with a warranty and our experience is that these are virtually indistinguishable from new.  The 2012 Nexus 7 is still an awesome little tablet with its Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and 1280 x 800 IPS display.   It's got that soft touch back and a Micro USB port for charging as well as getting your media on and off the device with an OTG cable.   This is the higher end 32GB model, not the 16GB so you'll have plenty of storage space for all your games and movies.  As an added bonus these units have already been updated to Android 4.4 KitKat so you've got the latest OS!  Definitely going to go fast so grab one while they got em at this...the lowest price we've seen for the 32GB.   Free Shipping too!  Hit the link below.

If like me you sometimes do work on your Nexus 7 and you've been looking for a Microsoft Office compatible program for your tablet then you'll be interested in this latest holiday promo.   OfficeSuite Pro, which is an awesome suite of apps that lets you create, view, edit and print MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents on your Android device is half off for a limited time.  Usually it's $14.99, but right now it's just $7.49.   They even throw in their new font pack for free.  Definitely worth getting if you like to be productive on your tablet.
