Nexus 7 Help / Group email
« on: March 12, 2013, 05:13:51 PM »
On my pc I can pick a group name containing several email addresses to automatically send an email to all the people in that group. Is that possible with the people app in the nexus 7?

Thank you.

Nexus 7 Help / Battery temperature?
« on: March 05, 2013, 02:25:15 PM »
I see the nexus 7 battery temperature can be monitored on the notification bar. Why? What is a safe range and when to worry?
Thanks.

Nexus 7 Help / Clone from 1 nexus 7 to another
« on: March 04, 2013, 08:06:37 AM »
Is there a way to clone a nexus 7 to another?

The original nexus 7 is a rooted device with many installed apps. The new nexus is a brand new nexus 7 right out of the box.

Both devices are the same 16G size

I have titaniumbackup pro and wugfresh toolkit on my pc.

Thanks

Nexus 7 3G / HSPA+ Topics / Plan for n7 and plan for phone?
« on: March 03, 2013, 02:30:39 PM »
I am curious how others are handling this.

Do most users of n7 3G, pay for a second data plan for the n7 in addition to the one they have for their phone or is there a plan that will permit you to use both on the same data plan?

Is there a nexus 7 available with 3G capability? If not, is it expected?
Thanks

I have a new nexus 7 wifi tablet which connects fine with my home wlan.

When I am away from home I need it to tether to my phone so I can use its G3. So I installed open garden on the android phone and set tethering on. But the nexus 7 cannot see it in the wifi screen so I cannot connect.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install something on the nexus 7 to make it work? Do I need to turn bluetooth on? Change a setting?

Thanks

Nexus 7 Help / Private syncing
« on: March 02, 2013, 11:34:54 AM »
If one is reluctant to share data with Google or the cloud, is there an easy way to sync my Nexus 7 data with my windows phone via either wlan wifi, usb cable, or my own website?

Even if it is done per application (Astrid, contacts/people, etc.)?

Thanks

I used the wug toolkit to root my Nexus 7, 4.2.2

When I clicked on SuperSU it said it needed to Update the binaries. After I said yes I got the attached screen

I know wug used twrp but don't know if I have a "custom recovery" or what that means.

Which button should I click on next?

Thanks

Nexus 7 Help / Where is the page indicator?
« on: March 01, 2013, 12:29:44 PM »
Where is the page indicator in the nexus 7?
I mean the series of dots, often on the top that tell you which page screen you are now on--like I have on my android phone.
Even when I tried other launchers the page indicators do not appear.
Is it something I am doing or a peculiarity of 4.2.2?

Thank you.

Nexus 7 Root, Hacks, Mods And Development / Temporary root and security
« on: February 28, 2013, 07:34:28 AM »
I'm a newbie so please forgive me if what I ask makes no sense to the experts.

Rooting is done by experts but also by non experts who wish to use certain apps that require root to fully function. Titanium pro, Nandroid backup, Avast mobile security, and others come to mind. But it seems to me that on a mobile device running rooted can be a dangerous practice especially if the user is not an android expert.

In the windows world it is somewhat like the user running as administrator with full powers and no firewall while connected to the web. One of the safety moves in the otherwise insecure windows world is requiring a password to permit dangerous administrator actions or allowing some programs to "run as administrator" while limiting others. A sort of compromise between the risks of running as administrator and a limited user.

I am curious: does something like this exist in the android world? I mean running unrooted and protected, but allowing some apps to have root capabilities? Or is that nonsense?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Launchers
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:28:49 PM »
On my rooted android 2.3.4 phone I've used several launchers to replace the stock launcher. On the nexus 7 the stock launcher is quite good but I wonder how many people have replaced it?

Any suggestions that work well on the nexus?

I've used Go Launcher Ex, ADW, Lightning, etc. on my phone and then settled on ADW because of limited phone memory.

Curious what other nexus 7 users do?

Nexus 7 Help / RootKeeper
« on: February 27, 2013, 12:53:17 PM »
I've rooted my Nexus 7 using the wug toolkit and made a Nandroid backup. I've also read the book "nexus 7 for Dummies" and have also read a lot of threads to learn about the device. I have some questions I'm still confused about.

I downloaded and ran RootKeeper. But I'm not sure if I ran it all the way or not. It is at this screen

I'm not sure if I need to do anything further, what to select and click on further to be protected or if I'm done.

Thank you all.

Nexus 7 Accessories / flashdrive with the nexus 7
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:59:43 PM »
I am looking at how to use a usb flash drive with an unrooted Nexus 7. Am I correct in understanding that all that is needed is an otg cable and some software like stickmount?

Does this just allow me to store data on the flashdrive or can I use something like a2sd to run apps from the drive? On my rooted android 2.3.4 phone a2sd puts symbolic links that trick the phone to think the apps are in the internal memory.

Any recommendations r cautions about purchasing an otg cable?

Thanks.
