Nexus 7 Help / Re: Transfer calendar data from phone to nexus 7

Bjs, your answer was marked as having been made on 31/12/1969 when I was reading it in Tapatalk. Now that date corrected itself. Don't know what happened and thought that maybe your computer date was off but it seems to have just been a temporary quirk.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Transfer calendar data from phone to nexus 7

Problem solved - partially.

I'm trying to not go through Google, even temporarily, because once data gets on Google servers it's probably remains there in some form even if deleted. The obvious solution is to use export/import functions. But my phone and nexus calendar apps did not have compatible export file formats.

So, I now use the same app (Business Calendar). I was able to export from BC on the phone and import the ics file on the nexus.

Remaining 2 problems I need to solve:
On the nexus (Android 4.2.2) I was able to use BC to create a "local" calendar that is totally unconnected to Google. On the phone (Android 2.3.4) the same BC will not create a similar local calendar. I'm guessing that this may therefore be a limitation of Android 2.3.4. Is it?
So on the phone I'm using a calendar that is potentially syncable to my Google account. Even though I marked it to NOT sync I am afraid that it might accidentally (during an update or error by me) send my data to Google. If it were a local calendar like on the nexus that would not happen.

Second problem is how to keep the 2 android calendars and my pc synced without going through Google or the cloud. I can easily transfer files from one to the other (by email, usb, etc) but that is not true syncing. I'm working with "MyPhoneExplorer" which looks promising.

I'm trying to work these out. Any ideas would be welcome.

Permissions have me very worried too. Has anybody tried LBE security master? It seems to provide some control of permissions and also blocks ads.

No, I am not using Google calendar. I'm trying to create and maintain a local calendar not synced with Google.

(your answer is dated 1969!)

The nexus 7 is worlds ahead of the nook. You’ll be amazed.
IMHO, 16g is ideal and is what I have. Remember that with free apps, you can use a flash drive via usb. Rarely need to.

Price: I got mine at staples which sold the 16g wifi model for $199 which is cheaper than Amazon and most places. On the other hand, when the new nexus 7 comes out (July?) the current model may get cheaper.

Biggest problem for me is that it has only wifi. But it can be tethered to your phone for locations with no WiFi.

Look at this video for a good introduction to the nexus 7.

Hope this is helpful.

Nexus 7 Help / Transfer calendar data from phone to nexus 7

How can I transfer my calendar data from my android 2.3.4 phone to my Nexus without going through Google?

Both the phone and the Nexus are rooted. Which file do I transfer?

Thanks.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Adding items to nexus 7 lockscreen
« on: April 07, 2013, 09:06:00 PM »
Thank you. That is useful.

It seems however that the lockscreen can only accommodate one widget per screen because they can't be resized, which is unfortunate. Unless I have not discovered how to resize them in the lockscreen.

That is why I have been using widget locker till now even in android 4.2.2. With widget locker I can resize the widgets and therefore place several (BeWeather + clock +...) on the same main lockscreen which I find more convenient.

Thanks again for replying.

I know about the  "+"  on the lockscreen that allows you to add widgets to the 4.2.2 nexus 7 lockscreen. But the available selection is a limited one. Is it possible to increase the available choices and add widgets that are not currently on the default available list?

Possibly stupid question from a newbie.
Since android is derived from Linux, will android apps run unmodified in a linux/Ubuntu environment?

Still another option is to install ownCloud on your home laptop and connect from anywhere.
Owncloud.org

Great for backups to your own computer. Playing games may depend on the speed of the wifi the nexus is connecting with.

One of the options in nandroid is to use compression. Do you use compression Bird? Have you noticed if compression has an effect on the restore failure rate?

After reading elsewhere I think I now understand.

I had assumed that if I was rooted and mounted root I could manually copy and paste it back and forth. Now I understand that is not possible which explains where I was going wrong.

Yes I understand the difference between rooted and unrooted access. And I also know that Titanium only backs up apps and their data.

My real question is, in a rooted nexus 7, can a file backup of everything from the nexus root and out, to a folder on a windows laptop, be used to later restore a working android OS (and apps and data)? In the windows world a regular file backup will NOT restore the OS and installed programs. That is why in the windows world an "image" backup - which is different from a file backup - is necessary to restore a working windows OS. Is there a similar difference in the android world?
