Nexus 7 Help / Macro capabilities?
« on: May 09, 2013, 03:15:53 PM »
Does android have macro capabilities for repetitive tasks?

If not, is there an app that adds that ability?

I couldn't agree with you more. I love my Nexus 7. The size is just right. But whereas in cold weather I could take it everywhere with me in my coat pocket, in shirt sleeve weather carrying it around is a nuisance.

What is needed is a tablet case you could attach to your belt like you do with a phone. Holding the nexus 7 horizontally in a belt pouch (or even vertically like the pouch I used for my HPLX) should be easy enough to design and beats carrying it manually or in "messenger bag".

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Launchers

Thank you. Good explanation. ADW does have folders too. I have tried both nova and apex. I guess it comes down to what you get used to.

I use Nova Prime, I've used many launchers in my 3 years of Android. ADW and Launcher Pro were great in their day but are based on the Gingerbread launcher so dated now, Nova, Apex, Holo and Action Launcher are the best 4.x.x launchers.

I can't find a head to head comparison of the different available launchers and would therefore love to learn from your experience. (Though fun,  it takes a lot of time to setup each new launcher just to put it through its paces) .

I am currently using ADWLAUNCHER EX. What would you say that Nova or Apex launchers do "better" or "more" than ADWLAUNCHER EX?

Thanks

Good idea but won't do it for some of us.

I'm sure someone will come up with a good solution and make a fortune!

I had a pouch for my HPLX (for those who remember that terrific handheld computer) that I could attach to my belt, but it is just a tad too small for the Nexus 7. Just a matter of time...... Not a complicated thing to create.

Phones have the advantage of being small enough to put in a belt holder. The nexus 7 is small enough to put into a jacket pocket, but when not wearing a coat it is a nuisance to have to carry it manually around. I wish there was a way for men to carry it easily without resorting to a purse. Women have a distinct advantage here.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Accessing TaintDroid
« on: April 27, 2013, 06:46:42 AM »
Thank you.

The real question is how to block some permissions apps give themselves that I, as an end user, do not wish that app to have. LBE seems to help by blocking access to certain items (notifications, etc.) but there are many more that it doesn't address. Wish there was a way to limit permissions or access to items (address book, certain folders) that android apps give themselves.

I really wish someone knowledgeable would write an app like that.

Nexus 7 Help / Re: Personalize Google News

Talk to Google! They are the ones that create what appears on a computer vs what appears on a tablet and their functionality.

Nexus 7 Help / Accessing TaintDroid
« on: April 17, 2013, 08:37:29 AM »
Is anyone using TaintDroid?
http://appanalysis.org/

Apparently it cannot be installed as a simple app. Does "LBE security master" do something similar? Anything else?

I'm quite concerned about the permissions issue in android, especially during updates. It is not practical to scrutinize app permissions especially when their descriptions are usually broad and vague.

Did you get the $6 case? How did it work out?

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: Case or no case?

Another question. I went to amazon to order it and noticed the moko case which seems to have a strap to help carry it. Does the blurex have something similar to carry it with?

The blurex case says it comes with a screen protector. Does that mean it comes with one of those stick on screen protectors? If so, how well does it work? Does it prevent finger smudges on the glass screen?

I'm also trying to make my mind about whether to get a screen protector or not. What bothers me about my unprotected screen is the fingerprint smudges it constantly is acquiring even though I try to use a stylus when it's nearby.

Will this screen protector eliminate the smudging or just "reduce" them?

Nexus 7 Help / Re: OTG Cords
« on: April 14, 2013, 04:23:42 PM »
The usb cable that comes with the charger is a male mini on one end and a male usb on the other. You need a female usb for the flash drive to plug into. I got mine at micro center but amazon also sells them.

OTG just means "on the go".
