Another update .. I used the version of Adobe Flash here -  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336 - and I was able to get Flash working with Firefox Beta, though it's slow as heck.  But it does seem to work none the less.

Previously I used Flash 11.1.111.10 which is what my DroidX phone uses, but XDA linked to version 11.1.115.12 which is what worked.  IT's slow for sure, but it'll do the job if in a pinch.

I have flash working on Firefox Beta (from the Play store) and I'm not rooted.

I think the issue is with which flash apk you sideload.  Unfortunately I forget which post on XDA had the APK posted where I got mine.  I'd recommend poking around on the links in the original and searching there until you find the right one.

Hmm, I used Firefox Beta from Google Play and Adobe Flash 11.1 which was sideloaded, but it didn't work for me.  Which version of Flash did you use?  Mine came from my DroidX phone.  Also did you install Flash first or Firefox?  I don't know if the install order matters, but it may...

Update: XDA has the link to the Flash APK here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336

I'm still trying to download Firefox Beta from Google Play again (deleted it yesterday), but I'll report back on a bit with results

Nexus 7 Help / Re: How to delete "locations" in Maps

Can you give more info on Locations?  Are you possibly referring to My Places or Offline Maps?

Google Now is pretty awesome, and even on the N7 I've found it to have some value.  For example it has noticed that I drive from home to work daily, and I assume if traffic ever was an issue it'd let me know.  Also it's notified me of a storm once which was neat.

The only thing I've found that was abit off is last week while planning an upcoming trip I mapped out a route from a hotel we're staying at next week to a restaurant, then searched for a few other destinations in Google Maps... all this from my laptop.  Then Google Now that evening on the N7 started sending me traffic updates from those locations.  Not a huge deal, but something odd.

But all and all I'm anxious to see where this technology goes and how it'll evolve, not only short term in Jellybean but long term as well.

I guess I should've held off before buying VPlayer for $1.99 :)  I'm downloading MX Player now as well since it does look great... and ya can't beat free!

samalex, could you please define the term 'side load'?  Thanks,

radio ..

Sure thing, side loading is when you load an app into Android that doesn't come from one of the app stores, whether it be Google Play, Amazon's app store, etc.  Apps for Android are general packaged with the .apk extension, and opening one of these in Android will launch the installer and install the app.

Getting into exactly how to side-load an app is probably beyond the scope of this topic, but I'll write-up something and post it in a new topic unless someone else can link to a similar topic I might've missed.

Thanks ... I tried side loading Flash 11.1 from my Android phone plus loaded Firefox Beta from Google Play but no dice... Firefox sees the plugin and when a Flash page loads it has "tap here to active plugin", but when tapped the browser crashes.

The sound quality on mine has been fantastic so far

Have you used any telephony apps yet?  It sounds great in Pandora, Youtube, Spotify, Google Music, etc, but for me the sound is very low on Google Hangouts, Google Voice (through Talkatone), listening to voice mails through Google Voice, and Skype.  I'm not sure why the difference...

Nexus 7 General Discussion / Re: 8GB N7s are $297 on Amazon

I preordered mine online from Office Depot. 16gb for $250, free shipping, arrived in 2 days, and they're mailing me a $15 gas card for spending over $50. Guess I lucked out! Didn't realize they were so hard to find right now...
Wow... and you'll probably get the $25 Google Play gift card too, so bonus!  You made out about $30 better than most given those of us who ordered from Google had to pay around $15 shipping.

I used Talkatone to call my dad last night on my N7, and yeah the audio was very quiet.  Also doing a Skype test shows the same there too even though playing music through Google Music or Youtube is very loud.  Not sure why the difference.

I've just had a look at VLC Direct and it says it's not supported for the N7. I guess i'll just have to wait till developers patch apps for the N7.

It's a shame in this day and age why things can't be a simple as drag, drop and play.

Check out VPlayer - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.abitno.vplayer.t - and see if that works.  I just installed it, and it's revamped for tablets.  If it works it's only $1.99 to unlock it else it quits working after 7 days.   I use VLC on my Droid phone but this might be a suitable alternative.

I don't know if this is a bug or something unique to my setup, but just now I paired my N7 to my DroidX smartphone through Bluetooth, and now my Nexus 7 is tethered through the Droidx to the Internet.  Also I've made no mods to the phone or N7... both are completely stock and not rooted.

The bandwidth is slow for sure, it took about 45 seconds to download a 6 Meg app from Google Play, but it's working none the less.  Also a bonus for me is I'm still on an unlimited data plan and don't pay any extra for tethering!

Can anyone else try this?  My DroidX actually has some bad spots on the screen and I've been thinking of doing a warranty replacement, but unless someone else can verify this works from other Droid phones I can live with the bad spots if it means my N7 will be online from anywhere.

Google Music is probably what you want.  I've slowly but surely uploaded most of my MP3 collection to Google Play, and it's nice having it accessible from my Droid phone and N7 regardless of where I'm at.  The interface is clunky but it does the job.

I've taken lots of video since getting my N7, and it natively saves in 3GP format.. but try VLC Direct Pro Free from Google Play and see if that does what you need.  I haven't tested it, but I will as soon as I can get my N7 online.  VLC is tried and true on the desktop, and it shows to support these formats: avi, flv, mp4, mp3, mkv, wmv, jpg, mpeg, mpg, rmvb, m4v, mov, 3gp, ts, vob.

Nexus 7 Polls / Re: Screen rotation
« on: July 25, 2012, 09:16:00 AM »
I tried Ultimate Rotate and I didn't care for the overhead, plus isn't it like $3 to use after 7 days?  Honestly it's not a huge deal for me, but if I ever find a good landscape dock that uses the Pogo pins I'll probably look again so the home screen isn't sideways when docked.
